Jason Castro and Gavin DeGraw Serenade Bachelor Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney

On Monday, ABC televised Bachelor Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney's wedding. One of the highlights of this wedding was the music, provided by American Idol's Jason Castro and Gavin DeGraw.

While I wouldn't normally think of Jason Castro as a wedding singer, somehow it seemed to work. I actually liked him on American Idol. While I was upset that he had outlasted the talented Michael Johns and Carly Smithson, I'm not going to deny that Castro is talented and unique.

The Bachelor wedding began with a string rendition of Pachelbel Canon as Judge Patrick Hillary and members of the wedding party made their way down the aisle. Pachelbel Canon is one of the overplayed wedding pieces of all time. Couldn't Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney have come up with something more original?

Oh wait--they did. They booked the dread-lock-wearing ukelele-strumming Jason Castro to serenade Molly as she made her way down the aisle. The song choice, Over The Rainbow, was oddly fitting as the Bachelor producers sought to milk the most out of the rain drama by panning to pictures of rainbows.

To fans who want to blame the wedding planner, just re-watch her interview, and you'll see that she had wanted to implement a Plan B. Jason and Molly refused because they were determined to have the wedding outdoors. I blame ABC for this because they wanted to play up the theme of rain as a symbol of good luck. (The episode is available on hulu).

After former Bachelor Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney recited their self-penned vows, Castro serenaded Mrs. and Mrs. Mesnick with his new single, "That's What I'm Here For," while the wedding party and guests left the alter with umbrellas overhead.

Poor Jason Castro was the only one without an umbrella but no worries. I'm sure he's thrilled about the exposure he received from his Bachelor gig. And it comes just in time to promote his album, which (according to LA Times) will be released on April 13.

After the reception, Bachelor host Chris Harrison offered another musical surprise for newlyweds Jason and Molly. Molly's favorite artist, Gavin DeGraw, serenaded the couple for their first dance with "Follow Through." Given the Bachelor's poor record for producing long-lasting relationships, hopefully Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney will be able to follow through on their wedding vows and to have a happy and healthy marriage.
