Jason Castro is Sweet, but is He Ready?

Jason Castro is Talented, but Can He Compete with the Stronger Men in the Competition?

Jason Castro stole my heart this season on American Idol. The 20-year-old from Rockwall, Texas, has the dreamy eyes, soft vocals and a real ability to play the guitar. My question is, does he have what it takes to fight his way to the top? There is no dispute over whether or not the guy has pipes or not, or if he even has the "Idol look", which he most definitely does. The dispute is over his ability to step it up a notch, bring in the rock and show the world his Rock N' Roll side.

Every time I watch Jason Castro perform, I am able to envision a scene from "The Hobbit" or a day relaxing on an Island with music and Mai Tai's. I would most likely by an album from him, should one be released, but I am not certain that I would keep buying albums. His dreamy eyes and hypnotic vocals are more of a bedtime song than a rocker topping the charts. He has been told by Randy and Simon to step his game up a bit, Paula, who loves all of them, never would have such harsh words to say to the "King of Folk".

His look and adorable smile combined with his sweet love song style, has been what I believe to have kept him in this competition for so long. However, I think it is starting to get down to the wire, and he is really going to have to bring his best foot forward if he wants to have a chance to win this season, and be the next big heart throb! Castro is too accepting of his outcome, he is not concerned about the voting or results, he has stated on American Idol that, "In the end, it will all be OK. If it's not OK, then it's not the end!" . This kind of attitude this late in the game, could be devastating to his chances to become one of the last finalists.

I have not seen any of the girls in this competition looking like a threat to Jason Castro, but there are two men that indeed will take the chance of becoming the next American Idol away from him. Those two men are David Cook and Michael Johns. They are starting to realize what needs to be done to win this competition, and they are doing it with force.

I am not sure that any rock songs are going to help him, as that is not his style apparently, but maybe bringing some excitement and pleasure to the stage, with a few Reggae songs might just be the "golden ticket" for him. At the start of this competition, he opened with that genre, and it worked in his favor for the audience and the judges. Might not hurt to try that again. I have noticed that many of the contestants have found a "safe zone" this season. Most seem to be afraid to move out of that zone, Castro included.

Results and eliminations will be tonight at 9/8c on FOX 11, so it will be exciting to watch Jason and his next move. Hopefully he has what it takes to beat the eliminations tonight, as I have not seen any talented women left on the show. I am starting to wonder if our next American Idol will finally be a man.
