Jason Kidd to Dallas? a Trade that Might Work

Add the Bulls to the Mix and This Three-team Trade Will Look Well in Every Place

I'm guessing that now that Devean George said 'No' (more like 'no to New Jersey') both the Mavs and the Nets are going back to the drawing board. Dallas needs this trade, and Kidd wants out. Sooner or later we will see it happening. How? Probably they will have to get a third team involved to make all the numbers work. Portland already balked at the idea a few weeks ago. Here is my humble proposal: Bring on the Bulls!

This is how the probable trade would look like: (many thanks to ESPN's Trade machine that made sure that the trade will work regarding the salary cap)

Dallas Mavericks:
Gets: Jason Kidd ($19,728,000, 2yrs)
Josh Boone ($ 1,133,040, 2yrs)
Gives: Jerry Stackhouse, Devean George and Erick Dampier

New Jersey Nets:
Gets: Ben Wallace ($15,500,000, 3yrs)
Ben Gordon ($4,881,669, 1yr)
Gives: Jason Kidd and Josh Boone

Chicago Bulls:
Gets: Jerry Stackhouse ($6,750,000, 3yrs)
Devean George ($2,369,111, 1 yr)
Erick Dampier ($10,590,500, 4yrs)
Gives: Ben Wallace and Ben Gordon

Reasons this trade will work:

Dallas: They'll take this trade in a snap. They get Kidd, and don't have to give up Devin Harris.

New Jersey: Kidd wants to leave. They won't get Harris, but the combo of Bens might work well in a new environment. Gordon might be a short lease, but Wallace will be an upgrade at PF. They can also start shopping Carter with Gordon as insurance.

Chicago: This is a tough one to figure out. Call it 'addition by subtraction'. The Wallace's experiment ran its course. The chemistry of the team is not working and Gordon is not a 'sure sign' during the offseason. Dampier will help on the post and, with Gordon out, Hinrich can be the new SG off the bench. Stackhouse can be bought out if Dallas throws a little more dough the Bulls way.

Will George block this trade too? The Bulls are in a better situation than the Nets, regardless of current standings. The playoff race is not over in the East. Oddly enough, the Bulls in one of the few teams that matches well against the Pistons, so even a 7th seed wouldn't be so bad.

In summary, Dallas will get its coveted prize without giving away its PG of the future. New Jersey will be able to part with Kidd and not be empty handed. Chicago will move sideways but still will be in the mix for a short playoff run and will not lose much in flexibility for the off-season.

So if you are a Marc Cuban's team fan, give him a call... there is still hope in Maverickland.
