Jason Kidd is the New Jersey Nets

They Can't Trade Him

Jimmy Smith
I read recently somewhere that the Nets were entertaining offers for both of their star players, Jason Kidd and Vince Carter. Jason Kidd is one of the greatest point guards to ever play the game. Rod Thorn, the Nets general manager, will not get equal value back for him. I would never consider moving Kidd for any price, he single-handedly resurrected a dead franchise that was drowning in the swamp that is the meadow lands. Vince Carter on the other hand I would consider trading if the price was right. Jason Kidd needs a post up player down low, if Carter can bring a pretty good post up player, then I would be all for that trade. Any trade that involves Kidd, the reason a lot of fans started even watching the team, should be shot down immediately. Richard Jefferson should also be in the discussions as possible trade bait. The bottom line is that Jefferson and Carter are players of the same mold. While they are good talents, their styles of play overlap too often and don't help the team all that much. The Nets have lacked a presence in the paint since Kenyon Martin was in town, and Nenad Krstic is simply too soft and too young to be a dominant center in this league. He's also out for the season, but Net fans have to be looking toward next year. This team might not even make the playoffs this year.

Jason Kidd will be 34 years old next month. Many say he's getting too old. Well don't you all remember John Stockton? He played well into his late thirties at a pretty high level. Kidd will be the same point guard he is now for the next two years at least. Even when his skills start to erode, Marcus Williams will be waiting in the wings to take lighten the load for Kidd. Jason Kidd when on the court, clearly dominates the tempo of the game, dominates all faucets of the box score and is an irreplaceable presence in the locker room and in the hearts of Nets fans everywhere. Trading him would be like the Bulls trading Michael Jordan, or the Lakers trading Kobe Bryant, it just shouldn't happen and it isn't in the best interest of the franchise. What the Nets need to do is acquire a presence in the paint some one who can score and rebound and not be a bump on the log like Jason Collins. Someone who can defend, and run the floor with Kidd on the fast break. The question is will the Nets find this player before Kidd's career is over? I firmly believe that the Nets would be serious contenders in the east with a strong front court.. They were strong contenders last year without one, and have been ever since Jason Kidd has been in a Nets uniform. He is the sole reason why this Nets franchise is any good and trading him would be an absolute tragedy.

  • Jason Kidd should not be traded end of story.
  • Kidd is still the same player he once was.
  • Trading Kidd would be like the Lakers trading Kobe.
Despite having microfracture surgery on his knees he seems to not have lost a step. Chris Webber, Alan Houston and Penny Hardaway never were the same players after that surgery.
