The self-titled album Jason Yates features a variety of personal feelings and emotions from the popular singer/songwriter. In 2004, Yates began writing the lyrics for songs from the new album, based on personal experiences happening in his life at the time. After performing as the keyboard player for Ben Harper, Yates began to take a slight interest in Harper's writing techniques. In December of 2008, after only 5 days, Yates and Harper began to co-write and record the new album.
Jason Yates' musical talent began to take form at an early age. At the age of 11, Yates was introduced to various artists who would personally inspire him to have a future career in music. At one of the various poker nights at his family's home, Yates met his major musical inspiration Barry Goldberg. A former member of Electric Flag, Barry Goldberg performed alongside some of the best known musicians of all time which included Bob Dylan and Neil Young, which amazed Yates. Thanks to Goldberg, Yates became more involved into music and decided to pursue the career further.
In 1988, Jason Yates co-founded the group Momma Stud. After performing as a group for years, the band would go on to sign a contract and release an album with Virgin Records. The band performed during the late 80's and early 90's, performing throughout various venues in the United States. In 1990, Yates and the other members of Momma Stud would release their album Cockadoodledoo. After several years of performing together, the band decided to split. Yates took a turn in a different direction, as he began to bring out his musical talents in front of major audiences around the Nation. Throughout the new Millennium, Yates graced audiences with his keyboarding skills while performing alongside popular musical artists including Macy Gray and Natalie Merchant. Yates would also join forces with singing sensation Ben Harper as a member of Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals. As a result, Harper and Yates would eventually form a bond and begin to collaborate on musical productions together.
In 2002, Jason Yates released his first solo debut album Angelenos on Neil Young's Vapor Records. The debut album featured 13 tracks which showcased the talents of Yates. The years following the release of his debut album, Yates toured around the Country, showcasing his talents to major audiences, at times ranging from 50,000-100,000 people, depending on the venue. Throughout his career, Jason Yates has maintained a positive attitude about the life, love, and longevity of his musical career. As long as music is alive, Yates will continue to inspire fans and artists alike with his soulful lyrics and music.
