The National Organization for Women, Feminist Majority Foundation and Women's Media Center joined forces to try to pressure CBS and the NFL to cancel the anti-abortion advertisement. They say that it is offensive to air a politically charged ad during the Super Bowl.
A letter from the women's group states,
"By offering one of the most coveted advertising spots of the year to an anti-equality, anti-choice, homophobic organization, CBS is aligning itself with a political stance that will damage its reputation, alienate viewers, and discourage consumers from supporting its shows and advertisers,"
Jehmu Greene, president of the New York-based Women's Media Center says,
"An ad that uses sports to divide rather than to unite has no place in the biggest national sports event of the year - an event designed to bring Americans together,"
Focus on the Family is the organization who made the ad which features the theme "Celebrate Family, Celebrate Life." They are an evangelical organization that provides biblical advice on marriage, parenting and other life areas in its products and services.
A 30 second Superbowl advertisement slot is selling for around 2.5 million dollars. Focus on the Family claims that the funding will not come from them, but instead was donated by a few "very generous friends."
Tim's mother Pam Tebow will reportedly appear in the ad with him. The ad is expected to focus on Pam Tebow's testimony that she was urged by a doctor to have an abortion after she had a life-threatening illness during a mission in the Philippines. If she had gone through with the abortion her son Tim Tebow, who went on to become the celebrated Florida Gators quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner, would not be here.
"I know some people won't agree with it, but I think they can at least respect that I stand up for what I believe," Tebow said.
David Garrard, quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars, says that he appreciates Tebow for standing by his convictions.
Garrard says,
"I applaud him for standing up for what he believes. More people, more athletes should do the same."
David Garrard who is known for being a proud Christian and for his involvement in the Jacksonville community where Tebow is from, said he would welcome the young man as a member of the Jaguars.
"I know he would be a good talent doing anything on the team and I know the fans in Jacksonville would just love him, I wouldn't have any problems with him being on the team."
Don't be surprised that the Jacksonville Jaguars are supportive of Tim Tebow's Pro-Life commercial because rumor has it that they plan to draft him as their #1 draft pick. Should CBS air Tim Tebow's pro-life Super Bowl ad?(answers)

Post a Commentwe should see more ads like Tebow's--there is enough on TV that encourages anti-family views that lead to STDs and other conditions unfavorable to children--children need stability--not transient relationships
This should not air. Plus he doesn't even have a uterus...
I haven't watched the Super Bowl in years but seriously thinking of watching just so I can see the ad - I am glad it will be airing since there were some who tried hard to block it!
Early term abortion is vacuuming a tiny human baby out of a mother's stomach while the child wringles and squirms to get away. Late trimester abortion consists of chemically burning or causing an early delivery where the doctor stabs the baby in the back of the head to make sure it is dead. In some places, they then vacuum the brains out and sell them for fetal tissue transplants. The last time I checked murder was supposed to be against the law in the US and this might not be politically correct but abortion is murdering a baby. Some people in the US do everything to save a child born early while others are murdering unborn babies. Thanks for the article. God bless.
There are a ton of Superbowl commercials and halftime shows that are in complete opposition of the Christian faith played each year - like those suggesting two women for each man (a beer ad from a few years ago) and they definately were not promoting marriage. Finally when a Christian organization is forking out the money to share the truth-abortion kills people (thank you God that you spared me from an abortion)-then people start fussing.
An even handed article. But I ask those who think the ad should air: if Planned Parenthood sponsored an ad for the Super Bowl on using condoms or their abortion consultation services, what would these same sponsors of the Tebow ad do? I'll tell you what they'd do - they'd go ballistic, start screaming and shouting and the ad would be pulled, no question! So if you ask me, neither type of ad should run, any more than an ad for any other political or religious party or issue.
I would say the Jags taking Tebow is probably going to happen.
