Following in the footsteps of his older brother, Jaxon Shipley (Brownwood TX, Brownwood High) is hoping to earn a reputation of his own as a standout wide receiver in Austin.

Jordan Shipley, a recent third round NFL draft pick, left Austin as one of the best receivers to ever don burnt orange. A threat every time he touched the football, the Longhorn's coaching staff didn't hesitate to use him as both a receiver and as a return specialist. While he could never claim to have blazing speed or a freakish vertical leap, Jordan did demonstrate a quiet confidence throughout his college career, and he had an uncanny ability to be in the right place at the right time.

Fast-forward to 2010 as another football catching Shipley is lighting up high school scoreboards across central Texas. Jaxon, like his brother, has proven to be a hard working player who continues to improve as college gets closer and closer.

Shipley, the first player to verbally commit to the Longhorns for 2011, has been making the most of his offseason this year. Hoping to silence his critics, he has been working particularly hard to make the necessary improvements in order to better deal with the bigger and stronger defenders at the next level. When he's not in the weight room, you can likely catch him torching defenders and racking up touchdowns at one of the many 7-on-7 tournaments around the state.

As his shiftiness, balance, and route running ability continue to develop, you can bet that the comparisons to his brother will become more pronounced during his final high school season.

A standout multi-sport athlete, Jaxon has not only made a name for himself on the gridiron, but on the track as well. He participates in a number of events, most notably the long jump, and the 100 and 300 hurdles.

Longhorn fans are hoping that this 6'1" receiver can bring the skills he has developed in high school with him and have an immediate impact, but don't be surprised if Jaxon takes a similar route to his brother and red-shirts during his first season. Time spent sitting out during his freshman year could definitely pay off in the long run, as Shipley could likely benefit from some added bulk.

Regardless of how long it takes Jaxon to get on the field in Austin, he definitely has the talent and hard-working attitude to eventually be an impact player at the next level.
