Jazz, Charms, and Spells in Africa

Chapati
Any true African will understand and nod their head in agreement when going through this article. Non-Africans should read this article with an open mind.

Jazz, to non-Africans means simply a type of music, but to many people of certain parts of Africa, the word Jazz means a different thing entirely. It means "spell or charm." Other names for jazz are: juju, African remote control, Ogun, Medi et cetera. To jazz someone means to cast a spell on the person for various reasons, some of which include:

Revenge

Some people will seek their revenge on anyone that may have offended them (knowingly or unknowingly). Casting a spell on their offenders is a method employed by many, in order to punish their offenders and also a way of passing a message to other people that you are "dangerous" and you are not to be messed with!

Love

Loving someone who does not love you back can be very frustrating. Some people will not take NO for an answer, so they cast "a love spell" on people who will not return their love, this charm will make sure they get the person eating out of your hands. The victims of this kind of charm are mostly pretty young women, handsome men and rich men.

Protect Marriage From Home Wreckers

Women are more prone to using this type of charm in order to protect their marriages from the claws of home wreckers. This charm works by cooking meals laced with this charm while reciting incantations that were given with firm instructions from the herbalist. If instructions are not strictly adhered to, the charm could end up killing the man instead. The man will never look at any other woman twice because every other woman will appear extremely ugly to him or the man will never be able to maintain an erection with any women other than his wife.

Keep Straying Wives In-Check

This charm is mostly used by men in order to keep their straying wives in check. However, this charm is used when the man is absolutely sure that his wife is cheating. After he laces his wife with the charm known as "Magun" (means, do not climb), he sits back and wait. If she sleeps with another man, the man will somersault three times and die! Trust me, this is no joke.

If he is not sure, he would never be allowed to use the charm because the charm will end up killing the woman instead.

Jealousy

Some people use charms to hurt other people simply because they are jealous of the achievements, beauty and probably the wealth of the other person(s).

To Get Ahead In Life

Most people will use charms in order to get ahead in life by casting spells on their boss, so that he or she will give them a raise or promote them without hassles. Others use the charms in their business so that they'll have more customers; some use it in order to get visas to travel out of the country. There are many ways people use charms to further their careers and or giving their lives some sort of meaning.

How do people get hold of the charms/concoctions in the first place? It is quite simple really; they go to people popularly known as "herbalists". These herbalists will sometimes warn them about the consequences of using the charms wrongly but most people just turn a deaf ear to their warnings and carry on with their evil plans.

Most people turn to charms out of desperation. Thank God many Africans are beginning to embrace religion and pay little or no attention to charms or the need to jazz someone but the sad truth is that some people will never change.
