J.D. Salinger's Toilet for Sale on Ebay

Famous Author's Toilet for Sale for One Million Dollars

M.R Charette
According to WMUR channel 9 news, J.D. Salinger's toilet could be yours if you care to bid one million dollars for it on Ebay. The originator of the post was generous enough to throw in free shipping and a letter of authenticity whoo-hoo!

J.D. Salinger rocketed to fame as an author with the best seller "The Catcher in the Rye". The book has been on many required reading lists and still is discussed today, decades after the first publishing.

J.D., when alive was a very private person, one can only imagine what he would think of this money grubbing scheme.

While the listing is an interesting and curious item it brings questions to mind. Why would anyone pay a million dollars for a toilet? Even if it belonged to Jesus Christ himself would it be worth that much money?

Who would buy the porcelain throne? A private (and extremely wealthy) individual may want it for an inspiring sit down. Perhaps the seller was hoping the ad would reach the ears of a museum?

The ad claims to have a letter of authenticity that yes, indeed, the toilet actually did belong to J.D. Salinger. Anybody with an ounce of sense might want to question just how authentic the toilet is.

Hypothetically, if somebody bought the toilet, how would they display it? Would it be surrounded by "don't come any closer" velvet ropes? In a room specifically constructed for this very special toilet?

Would it become a status symbol for the buyer? Would they show it off at cocktail parties or beer barbeques? Would the novelty wear off and the velvet ropes get dusty? And who would insure it? For the buying price of a million dollars Lloyd's of London might even be enticed to write up a unique policy for a toilet.

And finally, if J.D. Salinger's supposedly authentic toilet actually sells, will the buyer remain anonymous or try to capitalize on the purchase?

    The Submission:
To whom it may concern,,What is The Throne of Stars, here's the story:

The commode from the #One (1), Star Dressing Room of the oldest and most respected Hotel-Casino
Showroom in Nevada, came into my possession quite by accident. The commode had been installed
in the Star dressing rm for thirty-five (35) years, the show room opened in 1966. The first headliner that
performed on that new stage was Eddie Fisher, followed by over one thousand (1000) top of the line
Entertainers. The list of Headliners reads like a virtual who's-who of Hollywood icons.Frank Sinatra,
Sammy Davis, Dean Martin, Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, Don Rickles, Phyllis Diller, Charlie Daniels,
Willie Nelson, The Judds, Loretta Lynn, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Red Skelton, Danny Thomas,
The Coasters, Drifters, Spinners, Platters, Gladys Knight, Ray Charles, Little Richard, Lou Rawls,
The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Righteous Brothers, Mills Brothers, Everly Brothers, Gatlin Brothers, Bill
