Jeff Bridges: A Cool Dude With An Award Winning Movie Career

Christine Bude Nyholm
Award winning Actor Jeff Bridges seems to be everywhere these days, in the movies, on awards shows, on magazine covers and on interview talk shows. The reliable leading man has a likable, everyman demeanor that helps the audience to relate to the characters he has portrayed in his 40+ year acting career.

I met Jeff Bridges briefly while working as a extra in the movie 'Against All Odds' in Mexico in the1980s. My girlfriend and I were vacationing in Isle Mujeres, Mexico when we were asked if we would like to work as extras and we readily agreed. Our acting careers consisted of riding back and forth in a tax while the characters argued and sitting on a wall as Jeff Bridges drove by. There was a scene where you almost had a good look at us during a parade, but it was easy to miss.

Jeff Bridges and his co-star Rachel Ward were an impressive looking couple in the movie. They were both taller, thinner, tanner and more imposing looking in person then on film. We flagged Bridges down and asked for his autograph and he did not seem too thrilled to be interrupted, but he politely complied with our request.

His portrayal of the alcoholic country singer Bad Blake in 'Crazy Heart' earned the Golden Globe, Screen Actors' Guild Award and Academy Award in 2010. He has been nominated for the 2011 SAG Award for his new movie 'True Grit.' Immediately after filming True Grit, Bridges went to work on the science fiction film 'TRON: Legacy '

Jeff Bridges has a lengthy list of acting credits to his name, starting in infancy. He was born to Hollywood star Lloyd Bridges (Sea Hunt) and writer Dorothy Bridges in 1949. Bridges and his wife, Susan, have been married since 1977. They have three grown daughters.

Jeff Bridges on the Jimmy Fallon Show

Jeff Bridges appeared on the Jimmy Fallon Show on December 17, 2010. Fallon had gathered a stack of magazines that Bridges in currently gracing the cover of, including GQ, a Country-Western magazine and a new digital magazine Fallon called Bridges a 'cool dude,' an apt description

Bridges was born in Los Angeles, where he got his start in the movie industry. He now lives on a ranch in Montana, which he calls a wonderful place to live. When Fallon asked if he was a cowboy, Bridges paused and answered that he 'plays' cowboys.

Fallon noted that Bridges has a cool website, so I looked it up and have to agree Instead of blogging, Bridges doodles. The Jeff Bridges website consists of cartoons and handwritten notes, which tell you more about the actor then if he had typed away.

Jeff Bridges shows no signs of slowing down. It appears that his movie career is in its prime and has a great future.
