Jeff Dunham's Birth of a Dummy: A Review

Ryanick Paige

Jeff Dunham's "Birth of a Dummy" shows a surprising twist into Dunham's life. The biography takes you from his early life when he first began his ventriloquism venture up until his newest tour "Controlled Chaos". The biography includes clips of his daughters, his parents, and various people in Dunham's life including the new girlfriend Audrey Murdick. "Birth of a Dummy" takes you back stage and allows you look inside Jeff Dunham's life and all the moving parts of the dummies in his life.

To be honest until I watched Jeff Dunham's "Controlled Chaos" I had no idea he was divorced. The normal Hollywood rumor mill never took the Dunham's into consideration apparently. Once I found the Dunham divorce it appeared there was infidelity on both sides of the marriage. I could be wrong but that's how I understood it. And in the end the unhappiness of Paige and Jeff Dunham was brought to light when Jeff filed for divorce. Blog postings speculate that Audrey Murdick was the reason behind to divorce but according to "Birth of a Dummy", she came into Jeff's life after the Dunham's were already split. All we can do is speculate, the truth lies within the parties involved.

A surprising thing that I did learn was that Jeff Dunham designs his own dummies. He actually builds them himself. His two newest characters, Little Jeff and Achmed Junior, were created on a 3-D printer that actually prints in plastic. How cool is that? "Birth of a Dummy" is a great biography, even for those not that into comedy. It shows just how the determination of a person can make their dreams into a reality. Once Dunham knew he wanted to be a ventriloquist he pursued his dream and made it happen. He never had a back-up plan because failing just was not an option.

Jeff Dunham tried nine times to get onto the set with Johnny Carson until he was finally ready. And at that time he was only the third comedian that was offered a chance to sit on the couch and actually talk to Johnny Carson after his six minute comedy act was over. Dunham took Walter to the couch with him. At that time Dunham used words like "Hell" and "Damn" during Walter's dialogue much to his mother's dismay. She called him after the show and told him she was not happy with the language he was using.

If you want to know the rest of the Jeff Dunham story you are going to have to watch "Birth of a dummy" to find out. My opinion is that it is well worth watching. You can learn about the inner workings of the brains behind Peanut, Walter, Jose the Jalapeno, Bubba J, and the rest of the dummies.
