Jeff Flake - the Representative from Arizona's 6th Congressional District (and Candidate for Senate)
Flake. Seems an Appropriate Name!
Jeff Flake is the representative from Arizona's 6th congressional district. He has a BA and an MA from Brigham Young University. Flake has represented AZ-06 since 2001 (Flake Website). He was born in 1962 in Snowflake, AZ. He is running for the Senate seat that is open now that Jon Kyl has retired. (Wikipedia)
Arizona's Sixth Congressional District
AZ-06 is mostly the eastern suburbs of Phoenix (Wikipedia). AZ-06 is a very Republican district - McCain won, 61-38, and Bush got over 60% each time; AZ-02 is about as conservative. Flake was rated the most conservative representative by VoteView. Arizona's 6th district has a large Latino population - 17.2%.

Jeff Flake and civil rights
Jeff Flake does not support civil rights. He voted to ban same sex marriage (including wanting to amend the constitution), voted to ban gay adoptions in DC, and voted to stop enforcing hate crimes (see On the Issues). He got a 0% rating from the Human Rights Campaign. Rep. Flake also voted for the FISA amendments Act (HR 6304) which would greatly expand the power of the government to spy on you, me, or anyone it chooses.
Flake and executive pay
Corporate executives make a lot of money. Some people think shareholders of corporations should regulate executive pay. Flake disagrees. He voted against bills to do that. (see On the Issues)
More issues

(See On the Issues).
Jeff Flake' sponsorship of bills
Jeff Flake has sponsored 88 bills in his time in Congress. 86 never made it out of committee and only 1 has been enacted; many of the bills he sponsored were repeats of requests for investigations. The bill he sponsored that became law prohibited the wearing of a red crescent as proof of membership in an organization such as the Red Cross or Red Crescent. (see GovTrack).

Post a CommentWhile I favor the republicians, this guy is a little right for me. Others must think so too, he has so little success with his bills.
I notice, " against parental leave for federal employees," in other words, against families, against working people. And yet, Repubs are so loud about family values and working people continue to vote for them. Does his bill also outlaw wearing a Red Cross?
Go Jeff!
very clever pick up-thanks for shairng :-)
Can't we just blast him into outer space on the next space shuttle mission?
Thank you for these reports.
Wow...he certainly is conservative.
