Jell-O shots are fun, simple and always entertaining. Most commonly people use simple recipes to make their Jell-O shots with only 1 liquor and 1 flavor of Jell-O. You can make an endless list of flavor combinations and recipes for your Jell-O shots, so mix it up and experiment!

One key thing to remember when making Jell-O shots is to boil the water only, do not boil the liquor. Follow the instructions on how to make Jell-O right off of the box you will just need to alter the liquid ingredients. You can also add dry ingredients like spices or even sprinkles! Also you do not want to add too much liquor as this will make the Jell-O shots too powerful and unpalatable. Use water for at least ½ of the liquid ingredients. The other half you can use for your liquor of choice.

Flavor combinations

-Pina Colada Jell-O shots: Use 1 box of pineapple Jell-O with Malibu coconut rum. Get really fancy with a sprinkle of coconut shavings on top.

-Modified tequila shots: Use 1 box of lime Jell-O with your choice of tequila. Sprinkle the finished shot with salt.

-Spiked cherry cola Jell-O shots: 1 box of cherry Jell-O, split the liquid ingredients into thirds for this recipe. 1/3 water, 1/3 rum and 1/3 cola. Garnish with ½ stemless cherry.

-Chocolate raspberry crème shots: 1 box raspberry Jell-o with Crème De Cacao.

-Lemon drop shot: 1 box lemon Jell-o with your choice of vodka. Sprinkle the finished shot with granulated sugar.

-Jolly Rancher shot: 1 box watermelon Jell-O with sour apple schnapps. (Tastes just like a Jolly Rancher!)

-Chocolate covered cherry shot: 1 box cherry Jell-O, crème de cacao, with about ¼ of liquid being vodka. In your cup of choice put in a maraschino cherry that has been soaked in vodka or rum overnight. Once the liquid has been boiled & mixed with the Jell-O pour into the cup over your cherry.

-Fuzzy navel Jell-O shot: 1 box of orange Jell-O with peach schnapps & vodka

-Sex on the beach shot: 1 box orange Jell-O with cranberry juice, vodka and peach schnapps. (Equal parts of each, don't forget the water rule!)

-Creamy Mojito shot: 1 box lime Jell-O with your choice of rum and crème de menthe. (I wouldn't suggest adding mint leaves, the texture won't mix well with Jell-O.)

-Strawberry-Banana shots: 1 box of strawberry Jell-O with banana liqueur.

By now you can see the many different options available with making Jell-O shots. Be creative and try new flavor combinations! Also experiment with how you present the shots. Using condiment cups is the most common way, but try these tips for a twist:

-Use kabobs and layer different flavors of Jell-O shots. This way everyone has their own stick. Make sure the shots are very cold so they won't slide off of the kabob. Alternatively you can make a big batch of Jell-O and cut into pieces. Skewer each piece on a tooth pick and put on a plate.

-Put the Jell-O shots in ½ ounce shot glasses.

-Pour the Jell-O shot into mini Filio cups. This adds a crunch to the shot, as well as a great base for pie flavored shots like banana cream pie or chocolate mousse.

-Cut the top off of an orange, about 1/2 inch. Use a spoon to core the orange. Pour in your Jell-O mixture and let cool. Once completely cooled, cut the orange into slices and serve. Do the same with other fruits like kiwi or limes.

Be sure to experiment with add-ins as well. I like adding salt, sugar, cinnamon and sprinkles to different flavors of shots. Whipped cream, diced fruit, chocolate morsels and confectioners' sugar also make great toppings. Another simple & fun way to put a twist on Jell-O shots is to layer the flavors in a clear condiment cup. For Independence Day you can layer the bottom with blue raspberry Jell-O with vodka, let cool and then add another layer with cherry Jell-O, then put whipped cream on top. Or for Christmas use lime Jell-O and cherry Jell-O with your choice of liquor, and add cinnamon. The possibilities are endless!
