You will need one Jell-O pudding or gelatin for each child's place setting. You will also need several sheets of black foam and several sheets of yellow foam, depending on the number of hats you are planning to make. If you do not have foam, felt works just as great or you could even use construction paper. If you plan to use foam or felt, you will also need either craft glue (like Aleene's Original tacky glue) or a hot glue gun and glue sticks.
Cut the black foam into 1/2 inch bands that are long enough to fit around the top of the pudding container. You will need to cut one band for each hat.
Cut out square buckles from the yellow foam, and then cut out a smaller inner square so the black foam band will show through when you glue the two together. You will need to cut out one buckle for each hat.
Glue a yellow buckle to the center of the black band.
Glue the band around the Jell-O container.
Allow the glue to dry completely.
When dry, you are ready to decorate your holiday table with these little hats that are so cute that you really can just eat them up!
These hat favors are great for Thanksgiving, daycare, and school parties as children will be delighted to have their very own Pilgrim hat that they can also eat!
This idea can also easily be adapted for St. Patrick's Day as you can use green Jell-O gelatin instead of Jell-O pudding. This is a great and very versatile dessert idea for a children's party too as you can really use any flavor Jell-O pudding you want, including Sugar Free or Fat Free. This is one fun favor that adults may want to get to before the children can eat them up!
This idea could even be adapted for a Red Hat Ladies brunch or luncheon by using red Jell-O gelatin. Instead of a black band and a yellow buckle, decorate the hats with a purple band and any other color coordinating crafts items of your choosing. Red and purple feathers, buttons, or beads are just a few ideas to get you started.
Whether you need a dessert that diabetics can eat too, or you just want to serve a healthier choice at Thanksgiving, you really won't mind your guests helping themselves to an adorable hat full of Jell-O!
Your guests will surely be saying hats off to you and to Jell-O with this jiggling giggling fun idea!
