I see a lot of people calling other people with differing opinions "ignorant" or 'intolerant' which is their right but I do not see them presenting hard facts about THIS case HERE on AP. I MAINLY see emotion, opinion and name calling.
I see statistics that I will assume are correct but the reason for the stats is not given.
They give an opinion that it is racism related. Even so, if racial bias is the reason for most blacks being in prison, are you saying they shouldn't have had ANY penalty for a crime? Are you saying there was no crime in six people beating another human being?
Lets say all whites are getting off easy and blacks are being treated unfairly. Does that mean blacks should be getting off easy as well or does that mean ALL crimes should be punished equally? I think the latter.
PLEASE FOLLOW ME HERE. I WANT A DECENT ANSWER.
IF 6 white people attacked a single black person and they were charged with attempted murder, would you be satisfied and say "well at least they are being charged equally"? Are you really upset that the SIX were charged unequally to whites or are you saying they shouldn't be charged at all because beating someone for hanging a noose is okay?
What do you think about these statements from this web source?
Walters condemned the noose incident, calling it ``abhorrent and stupid'' in a New York Times op-ed piece this week, but he said the act broke no Louisiana law. He said the U.S. attorney also could not find a federal crime on which the three students could be charged
``It was a premeditated ambush and attack by six students against one,'' the superintendent said. ``The victim attacked was beaten and kicked into a state of bloody unconsciousness.''
How far should people be beaten before it is considered attempted murder? If Bell had shot at the victim and missed would that not be ATTEMPTED murder? Does the person have to be wounded to say it is attempted murder?

Post a Comment6 against 1 when all six are one race and the one is a different race pretty much makes it a racial issue. What is sad is that the climate in that part of the states is like it is. It's sad that people still see racial lines. Maybe there are reasons for racism but there are reasons for everything. Why I brush my teeth. You know? Some things are better to accept, racism is not one of them. It doesn't help the world much.
The only valid "stance" is the facts. The noose is irrelevant to the case, it was hung 3 months prior to the beating, and the victim of this hate crime wasn't even remotely involved with the nooses. This was an attack on a person motivated solely by race, the exact definition of a hate crime.
I think what irritates me the most is similar to what you say. People are complaining, protesting, and crying foul, but I have yet to see any one of those people express exactly what it is they are protesting about in any logical way. Most people are claiming that an 'injustice' was done, but I have yet to see any description of what exactly that perceived injustice is. If there were a law stating that blacks were to be punished differently than whites, I would wholeheartedly join the protest as well, but that's NOT the case. What IS the alleged injustice?
I think you make some very good points, and I wonder the same things myself. I hesitate to take a stance on the Jena 6 issue because it has been so diluted and twisted by the media and word-of-mouth. I don't think anyone who isn't directly involved will ever truly know exactly what happened. I don't feel the Jena 6 should be set free; although again I don't know all the facts. And neither do most people commenting. :)
It appears that Mychael "allegedly" broke bail for four prior offenses. From what I read; two of those offenses were "simple battery" and the other two were "criminal destruction of property". Does this not appear to be a pattern of violence?...I'm not making any judgments... I'm just asking the question...
I got the info from BET.com
...http://blogs.bet.com/news/newsyoushouldknow/?p=681
And I was just pointing out that the "positive" stuff gets little attention but the negative does. It seems that no one really wants to hear positive information.
It wasnt meant as a grave insult.
Perhaps some more "facts" from new AC CP, Jenn White?
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/402770/the_jena_six_racism_in_small_town_life.html It kind of reminds of me of the fact that I watched taped interviews and read transcripts before arriving at my opinion that, maybe 6 kids did not jump Barker. As for pageviews, you can not expect to influence people if you antagonize them. It is rather insulting to be called "naive" and patronized to as if I am an ignornant 10 year old know-nothing, rather than a been around pushing 60 that has a bit of knowledge. But I will give you a pageview, in an effort towards Peace on Earth.
By the way the article I put up on Positvie Black Potential has no comments. Maybe because it is less controversial?
The ideal situation would be for equivalent crimes to be charged equally. Ironically, the reason this does not happen is because our legal system is designed to protect the rights of the accused...thus each event is handled on a case-by-case basis rather than simply saying "if you commit this crime, you will receive this punishment."
