Jenna Fischer Reveals She is Pregnant with Baby Boy

Robert Dougherty

Jenna Fischer announced she was pregnant in May, but no gender was announced. Yet now that Fischer is a few months pregnant, she was able to disclose she will soon give birth to a baby boy. However, she waited specifically until she was on The Tonight Show Tuesday so Jay Leno would be the first to know. It caps a busy time for The Office funny lady, as she moves into a new avenue of her career and her most famous character prepares to give birth again as well.

Thanks to the pregnancy, The Office will work around it by having Fischer's Pam Beesley have her second baby when Season 8 starts. According to New York Magazine, it will come as a result of Pam and Jim's workplace sex in the most recent Valentine's Day episode.

Bringing in another baby is just one of many things the show has to resolve in Season 8, along with the still unsolved mystery of the new regional manager. While James Spader will come in as the CEO of Dunder Mifflin's parent company, Michael Scott's chair as regional manager is still unfilled. But another addition to the Beesley-Halpert family will help ensure that the new manager, and Spader's character, won't have to carry the initial load alone at first.

As for Fischer herself being pregnant, she told Leno September is probably "the home stretch" for her baby boy to be born. While her character is already a birthing veteran, this is the actress' first pregnancy, telling Leno it is already helping her get into closed restrooms, like at the Fourth of July hot dog eating contest.

While this is a time of major change in Fischer's personal life, her professional one is also getting some upheaval as well. Not only is her TV show going on without Carell, her movie career is taking a different turn in a dramatic effort. Her new independent movie, A Little Help, is opening this weekend, as it is both her first leading role and her first foray into comedy/drama as a recent widower starting over with her young son.

Since it is such a small film, it was a wonder Fischer got to promote it as the first guest on The Tonight Show. Yet the exclusive updates on her pregnancy probably helped get her the opening slot. But it had the extra side effect of promoting the next step in her career, even though most movie fans are still afflicted with Harry Potter mania.

However, Fischer's fans can see her stretch in theaters this weekend while they wait for a pregnant Pam to return on The Office Sept. 22.
