Jennifer Aniston Rebukes Media Rumor About Relationship with Gerard Butler

Mary Thatcher
Jennifer Aniston is no stranger to media rumors and reports about her life, whether it was her marriage to Brad Pitt or her estrangement from her mother. As with other Hollywood figures who seem to be an easy target for gossip but in real life pull no punches, the latest rumor about her is this: that she has been linked romantically to actor Gerard Butler, star of the new film "The Bounty Hunter" which is due for theatre release on March 19 this year. Of course there is nothing wrong with being rumored to be linked up to Gerard; if I was an actress, I certainly would not mind the compliment. What woman would not resist a 6'2" tall Scotch actor who graced the small screen as Attila back in 2001? Gerard's rugged good looks paired with any Hollywood starlet would indeed be newsworthy reporting if it was true, but according to Jennifer, it isn't true.

While Jennifer has not yet filed a lawsuit against the media making the claim (she did file suit in the past against Man's World Publications for publishing unauthorized topless photos of her in one of their magazines), one wonders why she would be so upset over being romantically linked with Gerard. Gerard is not married, so it is not as if she has to worry about his wife finding out about the rumor. SF Gate Daily Dish reported the story when Jennifer and Gerard were seen together in Mexico when she was celebrating her birthday back in February 2010. Jennifer certainly does not seem to mind being with Gerard, for she did pose for a photographer when she and Gerard were in the United Kingdom promoting the movie. So it could be that Jennifer, like so many other actresses, just does not like the paparazzi following her around, versus actually being with Gerard. Gerard seems to be a nice enough man, even for her. Both celebrities are famous in their own right, have substantial bank accounts, and get along together on the set. The question is, even if Jennifer does deny there is anything serious between Gerard and herself, does that mean nothing can come of their relationship?

The truth is, of course not. Many celebrities have met their spouses while working together. Jennifer and Gerard make a good looking couple, and they are still young so there is time for a relationship to develop between the couple. Even if they wind up never making another movie together again, Jennifer and Gerard (even their names sound great together as a couple) have a chance of not only being "good friends", as Jennifer told the media, but a romantic couple with the potential to stay together, too.
