Jennifer Garner in 13 Going on 30

Even though the eighties are on their way back into style and Michael Jackson is all anyone can talk about, it is difficult for a movie to make you want to put on Thriller and wear a side ponytail. However, 13 Going on 30 had this effect on me immediately. I am very disappointed that Thriller is not featured on the soundtrack and you'd think with the scene it gets in the movie that it would be. Speaking of that scene, I have a weakness for outrageous dance scenes that would never happen in real life. The Thriller scene is definitely one of these and I loved it. A group of hobnobbing New Yorkers do the dance from the Thriller video at a big time magazine party.

Much like the fashion of Big, 13 Going on 30 explores the longing to be older. Jennifer Garner is absolutely adorable in this movie. I do love a good chick flick I have to admit and this one is one of the best. I seriously felt giddy while watching the movie and immediately, well after buying the soundtrack, wanted to reverse time.

13 Going on 30 has the same idea as Big but these two movies are definitely not the same. I'll give you a short run down of differences so you see what I mean. The main event that sets off Big is a town fair. Josh, David Moscow, is not tall enough to ride the most popular ride and gets embarrassed in front of the girl he is crushing on. His main problem is his height so he wishes to be big and poof he becomes Tom Hanks. In 13 Going on 30 Jenna is in her awkward stage and after being humiliated by her so-called friends she wishes to be thirty, flirty and thriving. When David Moscow becomes Tom Hanks he is still in the same life that he was in before the wish, he is just big. In 13 Going on 30 she wakes up in her 30 year old life. Now she has her own apartment, boyfriend, and successful career. Tom Hanks has to look for a job and a life so that he can survive being big. There is another similarity but that involves the ending so I'll let you see that one for yourself.

One thing that is the same is that the main actor really portrays the thoughts and actions of a 13 year old. Jennifer Garner is very believable as a 13 year old stuck in a 30 year old body. Her facial expressions and body movement resemble an awkward thirteen year old trying to figure out what is happening to her. When Jenna wakes up as a thirty year old she finds her old friend Matt, Mark Ruffalo. He is also good in this movie but then again he has also played this type role before. 13 Going on 30 is great because even though your focus is on the main characters, the supporting actors will steal your attention.

13 Going on 30 is a wonderful movie. I loved the acting, the plot, the soundtrack. I enjoyed it so much I can't even put it into words. It is the type of movie that everyone will enjoy but the ideal situation for it would be a girly outing. There is a scene in the movie that is at a slumber party and if you could remake that setting in real life then you would be in the perfect place to see this movie.
