Chris Daughtry didn't even make it to the season finale of his season, yet he and his band, have went on to sell millions of records in the United States. The season five contestant has two number 1 albums, a string of top 40 singles, and an American Music Award win. Daughtry is one of the few idol acts that have had success after the debut album. It can be difficult to maintain the steam of the show once a contestant is off.

Jennifer Hudson has also had incredible success. This powerhouse vocalist was kicked off too soon on her season. Her vocal range and style has even been compared to Whitney Houston. Hudson got her big break staring in the Hollywood adaptation of the Broadway musical, Dreamgirls. The diva gave an astounding performance that lead to Oscar and Golden Globe wins. Hudson is arguably one of the most successful reality show contestants of all time, winner or loser. She has starred alongside Eddie Murphy, Beyonce Knowles, Danny Glover, and Sarah Jessica Parker.
