Jennifer Lopez - American Idol Hires Jennifer Lopez to Judge - US$12 Million Fee

Jennifer Lopez to Join American Idol Judging Panel - US$12 Million Fee but No Extra Deals

American Idol - new judging panel line-up to include Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez has reportedly agreed a $12 million deal to be a judge on American Idol. The singer/actress has been in negotiations with show producers about joining the panel following the departures of Simon Cowell, Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi. Deadline.com claims that Lopez was asking for $15 million to star on the series with a guaranteed motion picture deal and a number of TV pilots from the companies which produce American Idol - Fox, Fremantle, and 19 Entertainment. These additional demands were reportedly refused.

An insider said: "She was angling for an overall deal at Fox, including a put picture, to keep her movie career going. But Fox said no."

Sounds like the "Diva" has had to lower her expectations to clinch this lucrative deal. Who knows what spin-offs she will get from the exposure. I would love to see another J-Lo romantic comedy movie.

41-year-old Lopez was dropped by her record label Sony Music Epic Records last year. It seems the multi-talented performer accepted the judging deal in July but was keen for American Idol bosses to delay announcing the new judging panel until later this month to coincide with the release of her new single, her first release on Island Def Jam.

Season 10 Idol judging panel not yet finalized

The new season could see just one of the original Idol judges, Randy Jackson, on the panel. With three of the four Season 9 judges departing, it could transpire that Randy Jackson will be the only original Idol judge remaining on the panel. DiGuardi confirmed she was leaving the show two weeks ago, while DeGeneres announced her departure after just one season.

Aerosmith's Steven Tyler has reportedly indicated he will 'probably' be a judge. Other names being touted are Shania Twain, Harry Connick Jr, Elton John and Chris Isaak. Any of these entertainers would be suitable judges for the show. I particularly like Harry Connick Jr and Shania Twain, but Elton John and Chris Isaak would do a great job also. There will be plenty of excitement when the final decisions are made public.

Perhaps a new judging line-up will be just what American Idol needs to stay fresh and relevant. Bring on Season 10 of American Idol!

Australian Idol was dropped by the Ten Network for the 2010 season due to poor ratings in two previous seasons. It remains to be seen whether it ever returns due to the popularity of Australia's Got Talent and X-Factor Australia.

Loved the articles. Even though I don't know Jennifer Lopez personally, I have heard that she can be demanding, as I'm sure a lot of celebrities are, when it comes to taking on new deals where money is involved.

To the tune of 12 million, she's clearly the winner!

I would be a judge and for a lot less than 12 million.
