Jennifer Lopez may be an American Idol judge soon, as reported at CBS News. The popular singer, voted as the most influential Hispanic entertainer in America, could close the deal as soon as next week. The American Idol panel currently includes new judge Steven Tyler and old judge Randy Jackson.

Does choosing a judge like Jennifer Lopez on American Idol make more sense for the show?

Last season on American Idol, Ellen DeGeneres was a part of the team. DeGeneres is a comedian with no musical experience, and because of that, many wondered why she was there. No matter the reason, her appearance on American Idol did nothing to help the ratings, which were the lowest in American Idol history.

Does it make more sense for Jennifer Lopez to be on American Idol? The 41-year-old singer and record producer has a proven track record when it comes to music. Performing for a Jennifer Lopez on American Idol means that your audition is evaluated by a professional rather than by someone who knows nothing about music. Add that to Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson, who also have strong musical backgrounds, and you have a panel, when it comes to experience at least, few would joke about.

Get rid of Kara DioGuardi?

Kara DioGuardi was reportedly fired from American Idol, but so far that remains a rumor. If American Idol hires Jennifer Lopez and decides to keep DioGuardi, that would mean a four person panel, which some fans dislike. It was the three person panel that made American Idol famous, and it may do them well to return to that. Jennifer Lopez on American Idol, along with Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson, is a professional panel that has a chance to bring American Idol back to top standing.
