Jennifer Lopez Falls Video: J Lo Falls on Stage at AMAs

Adam Lambert Falls During His Performance at AMAs as Well -- but the Performances Trump the Distractions

Jennifer Lopez fell down at the 2009 American Music Awards Sunday evening and everyone is searching for the video. With a full troupe of dancers, Jennifer Lopez got about two-thirds through the boxing-related performance of her song, "Louboutins," the first single to be released from her latest album, when she slipped and fell. She got right back up. She danced on, barely missing a beat, like nothing had even occurred. So what's the big deal? It seems that everyone is curious to see J-Lo fall -- and are searching for the video -- for some odd reason, so three of the top trending topics on Google.com are related to Jennifer Lopez' fall and/or the video of her performance at the 2009 American Music Awards.

Which is a shame, really, because Jennifer Lopez' performance was just short of fantastic. For fans of dance, it was well-choreographed and, except for the one miscue, well executed. So if one is looking for J-Lo in some ludicrous pratfall or laid out on stage in some full-tilt horizontal meeting with the ground, the video will be a disappointment. Lopez' shows her professionalism and simply goes on. If it hadn't been caught on camera, only the people lucky enough to see the performance in person would have noted the fall.

But it was caught on camera and now it is on YouTube. It has become a viral video.

And if one is looking simply to see J-Lo hit the ground, one is in luck. She does that, but not so inelegantly that it is worth more than a passing mention. Truly, the only thing that seems to have occurred is: the fall kept a really good dance routine and singing performance from being perfect and it seems to have generated a lot of undue attention on the internet.

But if that equates into singles and albums sells, J-Lo might not mind so much. No doubt her handlers, producers, and distributors are loving every second that the searches for the video of the performance remain a trending topic.

Will.I.am of the Black Eyed Peas told Us magazine after the American Music Awards that it showed that J-Lo was a professional. "That shows she's a true entertainer," he said. "It doesn't matter how you fall -- just how you get up. She got up."

But Jennifer Lopez wasn't alone. It seems that Adam Lambert may have fallen during his performance as well. However, where J-Lo landed wrong from a jump off of a human staircase, Adam Lambert's meeting with the stage looked like a clumsily executed roll maneuver. Like Lopez, he simply got right back up and continued.

And both video performances are being searched heavily -- with one major difference. Whereas J-Lo's fine performance was marred slightly by her fall and many want to see it, Adam Lambert's fall is a secondary consideration as many want to see again (or for the first time) his risqué performance. Adam Lambert's falling down or poorly executing a dance roll maneuver pales in comparison to the buzz generated from a performance that included simulated fellatio, plenty of physicality, dragging a woman across the stage, leading two humans on leashes, and kissing a bandmember for several seconds.

So join the search. By all means check out both the Jennifer Lopez and the Adam Lambert videos. But watch them more for their content. The minor distraction of the performers falling really isn't worth the time. But seeing both AMA performances most certainly is...

I'm amazed more performers don't fall. The women are often dancing in very high heels. I have a hard enough time walking in them, let alone dancing and singing at the same time. I don't know how they do it so effortlessly, even after practicing so often.
