What's this? An original dark teen comedy/horror that is not a remake or an adaptation? Oh my, I can't believe my eyes (or ears)! "Jennifer's Body" stars Megan Fox who plays a freshly possessed, supernatural serial killer named Jennifer Check. She's out to make corpses out of her male classmates while her best friend 'Needy' (Amanda Seyfried) sets out to stop her. These two girls have been best friends since forever and we are shown many things to signify this strong bond between them, despite the fact that they don't seem to have too much in common at all - Anita/Needy is an insecure bookworm student while Jennifer is the overconfident, straight forward popular girl - Now how mismatched is that?

The story begins with Jennifer inviting Needy out to a local bar to attend a musical performance by an indie rock band called Low Shoulder. Jennifer becomes infatuated with Nikolai, the lead singer, who assumes she's a virgin based on his own conclusions. During the band's performance, an unknown fire breaks out and tears the place apart, however, Needy manages to save her intoxicated friend and escapes. Despite all that has transpired, Jennifer chooses to leave with the rock band (against Needy's warnings). The band takes Jennifer into the woods where she comes to learn that they are a bunch of Satanic worshippers and she is their victim for virgin sacrifice (which they need in order to get famous). They follow through with the murder but, unfortunately, Jennifer certainly is no virgin. In result, a demon spirit inherits Jennifer's body (along with her memories) and she is brought back from the dead.

"Jennifer's Body" contains a very clever set-up and the film takes its time to unveil its twists and surprises. Both Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried have done a great and believable job of bringing these two interesting best friends to life. The movie may contain some typical cliches and formulas from other teen horror/comedy flicks but "Jennifer's Body" accepts them rather than tries to hide it all in and pretend that its something better than what it really is. The humor is funny and it works plus the film has the backing of an original take on the already tired genre.
