Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey Call it Quits

Yesterday, TMZ reported that Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy have brought their 5 year relationship to a close. Jim Carrey is said to have tweeted that, although the relationship is no longer, he is "okay." Interestingly, TMZ notes that shortly after his tweet, Jenny McCarthy tweeted a similar sentiment, mentioning the importance of Jim's daughter, Jane in her (Jenny's) life. Following TMZ's announcement regarding the demise of the Carrey/McCarthy relationship yesterday is a similar report today from MTV's Movie Blog website.

It's a great public relations move to tweet to the world that a public, celebrity relationship is kaput. After all, one can't be any more succinct than 140 characters, can one? Are Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy thinking these Twitter moves will help them avoid the paparazzi? Fat chance.

On a more human level, it's incredibly sad that Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy are breaking up. During a past Oprah Show, Jenny McCarthy told the story of how she learned about her son, Evan's diagnosis of autism. She also shared her sheer determination in trying to find answers to heal him. Also on that Oprah Show, Jim Carrey described his early attempts to get Jenny to open up and talk honestly about her feelings about her son's autism diagnosis.

Using his humor, he told of McCarthy's efforts to hide her true feelings of fear and anger related to Evan's autism diagnosis. Although McCarthy apparently endured great struggles during that time, she eventually rose above it all. Sifting through various strategies for treatment for her son, she finally discovered strategies that worked to reduce his symptoms of autism.

The point is that Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy have been through a lot together. They have been there to support one another at trying times. The public feels disappointment and angst whenever they see much-publicized pairings dissolve away for unexplained reasons. Regardless of our own life experiences, we want to believe that there is such a thing as "the perfect couple."

In the days that follow this break-up, the media will go to great lengths to determine and/or speculate the reasons for the Carrey McCarthy split. The fact is that the vast majority of people interested in such celebrity "events" will never know the real truth behind the break-up. And that's the way it should be.
