Jenny McCarthy Says No to Dating More Celebrities

After a high-profile breakup with Jim Carrey, Jenny McCarthy has decided that she no longer wants to date celebrities. As Jenny McCarthy told Ryan Seacrest on his KISS FM radio show, "I can't do any celebrities. I need normal folk. I'm done, I'm officially done." She also joked that dating a celebrity had been on her bucket list and that she could now check it off.

Yet McCarthy is still looking for love. She told Ryan Seacrest that she hoped to find someone to kiss over Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve. "All the single men, I hope, go to Times Square because I want to find someone to make out with at midnight!"

I can't blame McCarthy for not wanting to date a celebrity. Celebrity relationships are known for their short shelf life. Their careers are so consuming that it is difficult to find time to cultivate meaningful relationships. And in the culture of tabloids and Hollywood parties, it is so tempting to stray.

Wizards of Waverly Place star Selena Gomez is another celebrity who is open to dating a non-famous person. In fact, she would prefer to date someone who is not in the public eye.

Of course, at the end of the day, this is not something one can control. As Gomez related, (via OMG Music), "You can't help who you fall in love with!" The film Notting Hill, starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, is a fitting example.

While I could understand why McCarthy would not want to date a famous person again, celebrities like Jenny McCarthy need to be aware of the pitfalls that come from dating a non-famous person. For example, she would have to make sure that her potential boyfriend is dating her for the right reasons and that he is not just using her for her fame (Levi Johnston is an appalling example of someone who was able to use his relationship with Bristol Palin to extend his fifteen minutes of fame).

Her potential boyfriend would also have to be prepared to handle the attention he will get from dating a celebrity. Many celebrities are used to living in the public eye and are able to handle it with poise and grace, but a non-famous person might not be experienced enough to smoothly deflect annoying questions from reporters of paparazzi.

In any case, I doubt Jenny McCarthy will have trouble finding someone to kiss on New Year's Eve. Ryan Seacrest jokingly offered to find her someone "nice and slutty" for her after the party.

A lot of them say that they're done with celebrities, then they find a normal person too boring.
