Jenny Sanford is Given the Ok to Divorce Her Cheating Husband, Mark Sanford

Governor of South Carolina

This feels like the longest divorce in history. I am not sure at this point why it took an approval from a judge, in this case, Judge Jocelyn Cate, to "allow" Jenny Sanford to divorce her cheating husband. They have been married for 20 years. The divorce will become final in March. Once upon a time Mark Sanford was thought to be a contender for President in the 2012 race.

You may remember that South Carolina's Governor, Mark Sanford, was supposedly going hiking along the Appalachian Trail. When he came back five days later he admitted that he had been in Argentina (not even close to the Trail) visiting his "soul mate" Maria Belen Chapur, 43. She and Sanford had been having an affair for a year.

The almost 50-year old Governor's location wasn't known from June 18 until June 24, 2009. Even the people "in charge" of him didn't know where he was. The scumbag...I mean Mr. Sanford...didn't answer his many phone calls from his chief of staff and didn't call his family on Father's Day.

Oprah Winfrey has done so many shows on wives who stand by their men - Senator Hillory Clinton is one of the most infamous of those wives. Well Mrs. Sanford was one as well - at first. The press showed the public loving e-mails between Governor Sanford and Maria, said that he had "crossed the line" with other women (That must be like "I never had sexual relations with that woman.") and in spite of the soul mate comment Jenny Sanford was willing to make amends with her man.

When Jenny filed for a divorce, Mr. Sanford blamed himself asking the court to approve Mrs. Sanford's request. I don't know about all of you out there who are divorced but I am and no one had to give the OK. Maybe it is different in high-profile cases. Mrs. Sanford found a letter written to his mistress two years ago. Believe it or not after he acknowledged the affair, Sanford asked his wife if he could visit Chapur. This guy has a screw loose for sure. I would think that any reconciliation goes down the drain when one's husband asks if he can see his mistress!

Mrs. Sanford has moved out of the Governor's Mansion with their four children. She has published a book called Staying True and will be seen around television promoting it.

I don't know why she had to wait so long to get a divorce too. It's a shame he had so little regard for his long marriage and family.
