Jeremy Renner to Play Hawkeye in the New Avengers Movie

There has been rumor and speculation about the final casting for the upcoming Avengers movie, and many have already been confirmed from their previous movies. At Comic-Con, Robert Downey Jr. announced who will play the Hulk and Hawkeye. Speculation had suggested that Mark Ruffalo would play the Hulk after it wasn't offered to Edward Norton, but Hawkeye was less obvious. Luckily, Downey named Jeremy Renner as the man to play Hawkeye in the upcoming Avengers movie.

For those who are unfamiliar with Jeremy Renner, he has appeared in S.W.A.T., The Hurt Locker, and the upcoming The Town. He is a great cast for this film and will be excellent as the archer known as Hawkeye. Some may not be familiar with the character either. Hawkeye is a former military guy (or criminal) named Clint Barton. Hawkeye has an amazing ability with the bow and arrow or any projectile for that matter. He can hit targets from an insane distance and can do this quickly. In one issue, Hawkeye uses his fingernails as projectiles, so he is versatile as well. He is a great bad ass character who doesn't have super powers providing him with a different take on the world.

The actual Avengers movie will not be released until 2012, but it will have the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Iron Man (Downey, Jr.), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Captain America (Chris Evans) along with other heroes. The storyline hasn't been released yet, but some have stated that Loki will be the villain or possibly the Hulk himself. Personally, I would like to see them follow Mark Millar's Ultimates story and go from there. Either way, the addition of Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye is a great way to go. Hopefully, the movie can live up to the insane expectations that come along with it. With Joss Whedon at the helm, it sure seems like the film will be great and a smash hit.

There is one other thing to add. For those expecting to see Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, it looks like this is not going to happen because a separate studio has the rights. While the characters are probably not well known, it is a shame that they won't make an appearance.
