Jersey Shore: Controversial MTV Reality Show of the Year

A Reality Show that Offends Italian Americans

With MTV's most controversial reality show making its debut on December 3rd, Italian Americans from across the America are crying foul due to the show's awful portrayal of Italians from New Jersey. MTV has been known to raise their viewer's eyebrows with their tasteless and pointless reality programming. According to www.cnn.com, celebrities like Alyssa Milano have also bashed Jersey Shore by dressing up as the show's most annoying character "Snooki" on a video at www.funnyordie.com. Snookie is the petite Italian American girl from Marlboro, New York with the sensitive yet feisty attitude. Many viewers consider her annoying, but I think that title goes to Mike Sorrentino aka "The Situation". I will admit one thing; the show is a kind of a guilty pleasure of mine even though I kind of hate it. I am actually from Long Island, New York myself and I have witnessed these guys up close, but they are of course not all bad. The word people use to describe these guys is "Guido". The contestants from Jersey Shore are basically Guidos. They even mention it constantly throughout the show and the girls refer themselves as Guidettes.

I really hope MTV will eventually pull the plug on their reality shows because they are starting get repetitive and quite offensive. Unfortunately, the likelihood of that happening is very slim since these shows bring up high ratings. During the 1980s and the early 1990s, MTV was once a great channel to watch the latest music videos from the hottest stars. Now it has become somewhat of a Mecca for reality shows. I don't understand why it is still called the Music Television channel if there are rarely any music videos. There was obviously lots of musical talent during the 1980s, but it all eventually died by the time the first episode of The Real World aired. MTV's reality shows from today's generation obviously target teenage audiences rather than college audiences. This means that reality show contestants will have more of an immature persona than an intellectual one. It really does not what MTV does now since the entire network is bombarded with ridiculous programming that has nothing to do with music. Jersey Shore may eventually be given a second season with even younger contestants with unusual personalities and habits.
