Jessica Seinfeld Appears on Oprah to Promote New Book
New Cookbook Provides Ideas for Parents to Serve Healthier Meals
Jessica married Jerry Seinfeld in 1999, and they now have three children. Jessica's inspiration for her book was her children, who, like many children, refused to eat their vegetables. Nutritious meals were met with scrunched up faces, and she ended up giving in and preparing their favorites despite her attempts at creating healthy meals she thought her children would enjoy. According to Jessica's blog (http://www2.oprah.com/foodhome/food/jseinfeld/about/blog/blog_main.jhtml), she discovered the secret to getting her kids to eat their vegetables as she prepared homemade baby food for her infant. "One night, as I pureed butternut squash for my baby (who, at the time, would eat anything you put in front of him) and simultaneously cooked macaroni and cheese for the older kids, I had a revelation: 'The color of these two dishes is identical!'" Jessica said.
Jessica Seinfeld appeared on Oprah on October 9 to promote her book. Dr. Mehmet Oz, a recurrent guest of Oprah's who is frequently on hand to promote his own healthy-living books, provides a foreword in Jessica's book and appears alongside her on Monday's edition of Oprah. Dr. Oz feels that Jessica's recipes are excellent to promote healthier eating habits for children with foods they already love.
Jessica, a first-time author, is also the founder of Baby Buggy (www.babybuggy.org), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing baby items to families in need in the New York City area. Founded in 2001, Baby Buggy takes donations of new and gently used baby clothing and other items to distribute to hospitals and families throughout the area. Baby Buggy also sponsors a campaign called Project Safe Sleep to promote safe sleeping positions for infants.
Jessica's book, Deceptively Delicious: Simple Secrets to Get Your Kids Eating Good Foods, was released in September and is available through Barnes&Noble.com and Amazon.com at a discounted rate from the $24.95 retail price. Sample recipes and tips from Jessica's book can be found on Oprah.com.
