Jessica's Cupcake Cafe: A Review

Mollie Quinne
I love playing time management games (and cupcakes), so when I saw Jessica's Cupcake Café was available for trial, I knew I needed to try it out. Jessica's Cupcake Café is, of course, centered on making cupcakes for your guests. Guests will line up on the left side of the screen and request a certain number of a certain kind of cupcake and you'll have to deliver their request before they get upset and leave.

When you first begin the game, you are required to choose which cupcakes you want to serve for that day. You can choose the cake type, the frosting color, and the decoration. You'll have three choices for each on every level. I like to choose the colors that match most closely so that I am able to remember what I chose more easily. For example, if red cake, red frosting, and a heart are choices, I will choose those three because they are all the same color. While this might not make the prettiest cupcakes, it gets me the highest score in the game and allows me to continue to the next level. If you're in the middle of the level and have made a more complicated cupcake, you can always look down on the bottom of the screen to see which cupcakes you're offering on that level.

When you begin each level, you are given a few seconds to prepare pre-made cupcakes before any guests arrive. This is a great time to take advantage of; when guests start coming, it is really difficult to prepare cupcakes and serve customers. To prepare the cupcakes, you'll select your cake batter and a machine will make it for you. Then, you'll bring it to the oven and cook it. While this is happening, you should prepare the frosting and decoration. When the cupcakes are done baking, bring them to the counter along with the frosting. Put the frosting on the cupcakes and then do the same with the decorations. Bring the completed cupcakes to the stand at the bottom of the screen to store them there. As you're doing this, you should also be preparing the next batch of cake batter to put in the oven.

As you progress in the levels, you'll get more batter stations, ovens, frosting stations, and decoration stations. You'll also have to start preparing different styles of cupcakes for your guests. Guests will also be able to make special orders beyond your pre-selections.

As most time management games do, Jessica's Cupcake Café requires a lot of multi-tasking and can be stressful at times if you let yourself get too into it. The ability to decide which cupcake you'll make for the day makes me happy as it allows me to make more choices within the game. I like choosing the cupcake that looks just perfect to me - and it also allows me to make this time management game easier for myself! The guests don't leave too soon, as they do in some time management games, which makes the game not as frustrating as it could be.

Overall, Jessica's Cupcake Café is one of my favorite time management games. It's so fun, exciting, and colorful. You'll also get to make yummy sweets, and no one doesn't like that.

If you're looking to try out Jessica's Cupcake Café yourself, you can always play for an hour by downloading it from BigFishGames.com. There are quite a few other time management games there for trial as well if cupcakes aren't your thing.
