Jesus Calling – Devotional Book Review

Lee Hansen

While attending a women's retreat this past year, I learned about a daily devotional by Sarah Young. It is called, Jesus Calling. So excited was I to get this that I went to a local Christian bookstore during a break and purchased it. While it would normally cost $14.99 I was fortunate to get it on sale for $9.99.

What I particularly enjoy about this devotional book is that the words are written as if Jesus was actually speaking to you specifically. Because there is not a year attached to each daily devotional it can be used year after year. A few Bible passages are given at the conclusion of each reading that gives further insight of what has just been read. The silk bookmark included serves as a handy way to mark where you left off.

The padded front cover is smooth to the touch and the print makes for a comfortable reading experience. If pressed for time, consumers will be glad to know that these quick devotional readings will not take more than 5-7 minutes on average.

This would be ideal for a new Christian or simply for someone to use as a supplement to their quiet time with the Lord. The iphone and iPod Touch applications are available at VisitJesusCallingApp.com. You will also be shown a demonstration at the site.

This 2004 copyright edition is a publication of Thomas Nelson Publishers. Sarah Young also offers these other titles: Dear Jesus, Jesus Lives, Jesus Calling for Kids, and a Jesus Calling in a Leathersoft Edition. She has dedicated Jesus Calling to her mother who served as a great encourager of her writing.

It is a Bible devotional that I would highly recommend without hesitation for those wanting to know about God's Word while developing a closer walk with Him. And if you're looking for a unique gift this would be quite ideal.
