Jesus Christ: The Lamb of God that Takes Away the Sins of the World

Bennie Perry
John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

In this section of Scripture, John the Baptist begins to talk about who Jesus Christ really and truly was, by declaring that he was the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the word. Down through the ages of history, the term Lamb of God has been one of the most cherished symbols of Jesus Christ really was. But what does it mean to us in today's age and time? This article we talk about who Jesus really was and what he means to us today.

Historically, the word passover, often refers back to the time when the God of Israel delivered them from Egyptian bondage. God had pronounced judgment on Egypt and as a result the firstborn of every Egyptian parent will be killed that night. As he prepared to execute his final judgment, those who believe in God, were instructed to clearly prove it by sprinkling the blood of a lamb over their doorpost that night. When the death Angel came by later that night, and saw the blood on the doorpost, he would pass over the house. Those who believe God, and applied the blood over there doorpost, ended up being saved.

The people knew that they had been separated from God, and they their sins had to be removed out of the way somehow. The Bible says in the Old Testament that the soul that sinneth will surely die, so God in his mercy, knowing that man was trapped and seeing him back he had no Way out, sent his son Jesus Christ to become a sin substitute for us. However, let it be noted that Jesus Christ willingly offered himself as a sacrifice, because he told his disciples in a certain section of Scripture that no man had the authority to take his life from him, but that he would willingly lay it down so that he could take it up again.

So God, because of his goodness and mercy, made a way out for us. The Bible declares in Romans chapter 10, verses 9-10 that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved. It doesn't matter what color you are, or what race you are, nor whether you're rich or poor, the word whosoever includes everyone. All you have to do is ask Jesus Christ to come into your life and to forgive you of your sins and it will be done.
