Jesus' Last Supper

Passover only a few days away, Jesus wanted to share a last meal with His Apostles…He knew His enemies were going to arrest Him. When Jesus and the twelve disciples made ready for the Passover, Jesus sat down with the twelve at the table. As they ate, Jesus said, "Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me," and all of the disciples began to say, "Lord, is it I?" Jesus answered and said; "He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me." He also warns them, "Woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed…it would be good for the man if he had not been born." (Matthew 26:19 - 24); (Mark 14:17 - 21);

Jesus picked up a loaf of bread, broke it apart, and passed it around to His Apostles. He then said, "Take, eat; this is my body." He then passed around a cup of wine, saying that it was His blood…which will be shed for the forgiveness of sins. (Matthew 26:26 - 27; (Luke 22:18)

Jesus also says to them, "I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom." (Luke 22:18)

As the disciples ate what is now called the "Last Supper," Jesus told them, "Do this in remembrance of me." (Matthew 26: 26 - 29) From thereafter, whenever early Christians would meet to worship, they would share bread and wine in a ritual that is known as the "Lord's Supper or Holy Communion." (Luke 22:19)
