Jesus on the Mountain

April Fox
look at you
wearing sorrow like a shroud
waiting on the first stone to be cast
and the flames to lick your face

do you think
that we will praise the ashes left
forget the sins you made yourself
and left behind for us
to collect
and keep in our pockets
with the ammunition
excess left
by your weakness
and easy relent?

martyr crown,
you keep it shined
and on display
feed on the week that kiss your
sandaled feet
they may carry the cross for you
may listen to your pious words
regret and introspection spun
the softest fibers
they want to hold
and feel
but i know how easily
they tear
and
rip apart and leave you
exposed and open
entrails leaking out
onto the golden floor you paved
with shame and good intentions
and when you look down and see
that gold is only rocks
and the shine is dimmed
by blood and tears
will your followers lift you then?
carry you to safety, mend your wounds and dry your eyes
or will they back away-
sick with revulsion and wish
that they were safe with me
behind the closed and bolted door-
alone in the house i built
on truth
and locked you out
for good.

Raw imagery. Real life is the exponential expression clothed in poetry. Nice work.
