Jet Uses Magick: The Remnants of Decomposing Wood

Jet is neither a gem or a mineral. It is the remnant of decomposing wood and is a variety of lignite coal. Its color ranges from dark brown to jet black. When you rub jet between your fingers it conducts an electric charge. It will also do that with silk and wood.

Amber does the same thing and sometimes jet is referred to as black amber. Amber and Jet are considered to be the stones of the Witches even though neither one is actually a stone at all. Jet comes in two forms, hard and soft. The difference being that hard jet forms under seawater and soft jet forms in freshwater.

Jet can be found all over the world including the United States, England, Spain, India, Poland, Russia, France and Germany. The black color makes it very popular in jewelry. Anthracite and vulcanite are often used to resemble it and its hard to tell the difference. By touching it can you feel the warmness of Jet which the others do no possess. Jet has a glassy appearance and sometimes dark glass is sold as fake jet.

In meditation Jet helps align your chakras and also ground and center. It dissolves and neutralizes negative energy. People who worry a lot, have high amounts of stress or need a lot of psychic protection (ghost hunters, mediums, etc) can benefit from wearing it or carrying a piece in their pocket.

Jet can be rolled into beads, like a rosary, to wear as a necklace. This was very popular in the 1920's. Amber and jet necklaces are very powerful and beautiful.

Due to its black color it can be used as a scrying tool. Tiger's eye and hematite are some other good stones too use for scrying. You can either gaze into it as your scrying surface or hold it in your hand to help neutralize any energies that would interfere with your results.

When used in magick Jet provides protection to its wearer. It also helps release stress, dispel fear, align your chakras and break the ties of negative energy between you and another person or object. Other stones and gems that go well with jet are tourmaline, quartz, tiger's eye and amethyst. Jet has many unique properties and can be used to represent any of the four elements- earth, air, fire and water. Never let anyone wear or touch your Jet because it will absorb their energies and make it ineffective for you.

Something to remember when buying Jet is that the word "jet" is sometimes used in place of the work black. So if you run into something labeled as a "jet necklace" chances are it just means that its black and not real jet. China sells jet but it is of very low quality. British, American and European varieties are the best kind to buy.
