JetBlue Adds Flights to Sunny Florida

JetBlue Airways has recently announced the addition of 18 flights to Florida to their ever growing schedule. JetBlue announced that in order to better serve customers across the Northeast and Florida, new flights from previously unconnected cities would be added, to offer yet more possibilities for travel on JetBlue. Many of the flights are from cities in the Northeast which previously have never had nonstop flights to Florida.

Buffalo, New York adds three flights to Florida. Fort Lauderdale and Orlando service has already begun and Fort Myers service will begin on January 8, 2008. Burlington, Vermont gets a nonstop flight to Orlando, Florida, beginning on the 10th of January. White Plains, New York will add a nonstop flight to Fort Myers beginning on January 8.

Also seeing an addition in service is Charlotte, North Carolina, one of the main hubs of competitor US Airways. JetBlue is adding a flight to Fort Lauderdale, a very profitable route for US Airways. JetBlue also hopes to capitalize on that profitability. It can be expected that prices on this route will be slashed, as traditional airlines try to keep their share of the market.

Other additions out of Fort Lauderdale include a flight to Ponce, Puerto Rico, which recently began. JetBlue has recently been expanding on the lucrative South Florida to Caribbean market, as traditionally it has been a very profitable area, mostly on air cargo. Also added from Fort Lauderdale include Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina and Richmond, Virginia, two cities which have significant tourist potential in both directions, allowing for profitability for JetBlue.

JetBlue's director of revenue management, Roger Johnson, had the following to say at the recent press conference. "As an airline committed to offering more to our customers -- more low fares, more entertainment, more legroom, and more value -- we're thrilled to offer even more flights as we ramp up our winter schedule to include as many as 144 departures per day to Florida. Jetting off to the Sunshine State has never been more convenient or more comfy than it is this winter with JetBlue's unrivaled selection of flights."

JetBlue offers many rare amenities in the low cost airline market. All flights within the United States feature in seat DirecTV at no cost. JetBlue also recently established a passenger bill of rights, a document that establishes procedures for when passengers are unable to complete travel as booked with the airline. The bill of rights came after a weather fiasco in the Northeast which shut the airline down for nearly a week, stranding passengers, and creating a public relations nightmare.
