JetBlue Flight Attendant Arrested After Outburst

The Jetblue flight attendant hadn't worked for the company for very long before his outlash. Monday morning in New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport there was an argument between a flight attendant and a passenger, after the flight attendant was struck with some baggage the person was trying to get down.

Reports said the flight attendant humbly asked for an apology, but after not receiving one he began to make a ruckus. The flight attendant got over the loud speaker and began taunting and cursing the passenger; After wards he grabbed a beer, opened the parachute slide, and slid down the chute before walking to his car and leaving.

There were never any real threats to the employees or passengers, no thought of endangerment or physical abuse to anyone.

The flight attendants name is Steven Slater, and after his reckless abandonment of the plane, he was picked up and arrested at his nearby home in Queens, New York. The police were called around 25 minutes after the charade had happened, and showed up quickly to apprehend Slater.

Slater stayed in custody overnight Monday after his initial arrest. The 39 year old's mother was contacted at a previous address Slater used to live at, but would not answer any of the media's questions except for telling them that she was, in fact, Slater's mother.

The whole situation began on Flight 1052 from Pittsburgh, but thankfully Slater didn't pull the emergency chute-slide until after they had landed on the ground. It's not clear how long Steven Slater had worked for JetBlue, but what is for certain is that he has gathered many fans on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace who are applauding his willingness to up and walk away from the situation.

It's not necessarily a good or a bad thing, what happened with Slater. The bad being that he was in a heated argument with a passenger as the plane was in flight, and should have kept more composure as the commercial airline was flying. The good, however, is that he did not threaten any passengers, there were no injuries to crew or anyone else, and the plane was landed before his outlash.

People are still wondering why Slater grabbed one single beer before jumping out of the plane. Perhaps it was his last stand before leaving a stressful and sometimes passionless job? Maybe it was his trophy for 'giving it to the man.'

One thing, however, is for sure. Slater gathered many supporters, and may be seen in the spotlight for all of those 'little guys' out there who have been beaten and verbally battered at their jobs for years without speaking up or changing the slightest thing.

One question that I'm sure will stay on everyone's mind is this: Why did it take over 25 minutes for the police to show up and apprehend Slater? Were proper landing and emergency strategies used on the plane after his departure? Surely someone could have dialed the authorities at the time. However Slater did manage to make it home, and I'm sure he had the time to enjoy the taste of victory; Or was that just barley and hops?

  • Steven Slater could end up being a role model for the overworked-underpaid employee.
  • His apprehension was 25 minutes after the incident had happened.
  • His finally trophy of the job was a single beer, taken before exiting the plane.
Slater's lawyer has not yet been released; neither have the charges against him. However, was it worth the 25 minutes of glory to be able and curse out a passenger with a bad attitude?
