Jets Vs Chargers Score Biggest Jets Upset Yet

Robert Dougherty
The Jets vs Chargers score finally produced some drama this weekend. What's more, the Jets vs Chargers score provided the biggest surprise of the year. New York's 17-14 win wasn't surprising to Rex Ryan, or those who believed his predictions. To most everyone else, this looked like San Diego's year, and it looked like New York would be exposed as lucky frauds. Instead, the Jets vs Chargers score sent a message that Gang Green may be for real.

Heading into this weekend, three bye teams looked to be on hard times, while the Chargers were the red hot favorite. But as it turned out, the Colts, Saints and Vikings all got back on track, while the Chargers are now gone. And of all teams, the New York Jets are among those Big 3 in the next to last Sunday of the season.

From the start, the Jets vs Chargers score was conducted at New York's pace. Although Mark Sanchez and the Jets' rushers got off to a slow start, the defense was on their game. Philip Rivers got a touchdown pass to Kris Wilson, to make it 7-0 at halftime, but San Diego was otherwise handcuffed. Two missed field goals by Nate Kaeding didn't help either.

With Rivers not as accurate as usual, it was only a matter of time before the New York defense got to him. They did so with two interceptions in the third quarter - one a highlight reel catch by Darrelle Revis, and the other a game-changing pick by Jim Leonhard near the red zone. Sanchez then responded with a touchdown to Dustin Keller, putting the Jets vs Chargers score in New York's favor for good.

San Diego was sent into a bigger hole when Shonn Greene exploded for a 53-yard score. Kaeding all but sealed their fate with a third missed field goal minutes later, and although Rivers led a late touchdown drive, it was too late. A final fourth-and-1 conversion by Thomas Jones finished things off for the Jets.

The Jets vs Chargers score provided some welcome deja vu for New York, and brought back unpleasant memories for San Diego. Like the Jets did against the Bengals, they won by pulling ahead in the second half, with defensive power and the opposition missing key field goals. For San Diego, they lost a playoff game at home they were expected to win, like they did against the Jets in 2005 and the Patriots in 2006 - with Kaeding missing big kicks in all of these games.

Once more, the Chargers fumbled away a chance to get to the Super Bowl, though this may be their biggest failure yet. After winning 11 straight games, and getting what looked to be a tailor made road to the Super Bowl, it fell apart for them like always.

As for New York, their most shocking win yet puts them a step away from their first Super Bowl in 41 years. In the ultimate bit of deja vu, the Jets vs Chargers score gives them another shot at the Colts - the team they beat to start this run, and the team they beat in their last Super Bowl appearance. While pundits focus on that, they may start to dream of a Super Bowl between the Jets and Brett Favre's Vikings, in the back of their minds.

In these two NFL playoff weekends, the first three games were blowouts and disappointments, while the final game provided all of the drama and surprises. But even by New York's recent standards, this was a stunner - though it will pale in comparison to upsetting the Colts again.
