Jets Vs Colts NFL Wild Card Playoffs 1-8 Update: Las Vegas Line & Pick Against the Spread

New York Jets Pull Short Straw & Must Face Indianapolis Colts on Their Field

Todd Jacobs
The New York Jets travel to Indianapolis to take on the Indianapolis Colts Saturday night January 8th in the NFL Wild Card Playoffs. The Indianapolis Colts and Peyton Manning have Rex Ryan's number. As a defensive coordinator and head coach Rex Ryan has only beaten the Indianapolis Colts once.

The advantage heading into this game is clearly with the Indianapolis Colts but Peyton Manning can be flustered and he can be knocked off his game. The interesting aspect of this match up is that Rex Ryan has never been able to figure out how to get Manning off his game. Look for Ryan to study and attempt to implement some of the New England Patriots and the San Diego Chargers defensive strategy in this game.

New York Jets Offense vs Indianapolis Colts Defense

Mark Sanchez is the anchor dragging down this New York Jets offense and it has become noticeable late in the NFL regular season with the December swoon of the offense. In a span of six games, from Thanksgiving to the end of the NFL regular season Mark Sanchez threw two touchdowns in six games. He went three games in that time without a touchdown pass. If Sanchez struggles in this game do not be surprised if Rex Ryan has a quick hook.

The New York Jets run offense has been the key all season. Brian Shottenheimer has managed his two running backs, veteran LaDanian Tomlinson and Shonn Greene over the course of the NFL regular season with the sole purpose of pounding the opposition in the NFL Playoffs. Even better for the New York Jets is the fact that Joe McKnight rattled off 158 yards in the last week of the regular to earn playing consideration in the NFL Playoffs.

If the New York Jets are planning on running the ball to take advantage of a perceived weakness in the Indianapolis Colts run defense hey may be surprised at the improvement up front for the Colts. The defense has made a concerted effort to prove they are no longer easy to run against.

At mid season the Indianapolis Colts were yielding over 150 yards per game on the ground. They have dropped that number to 132 yards per game on the ground as the season came to a close. They faced Chris Johnson in the last game of the NFL regular season and they held him to 39 yards rushing.

Pass defense is not an issue with this Indianapolis Colts defense either. They are keeping opposing quarterbacks to just 209 yards per game. The Indianapolis Colts defense has the edge over the New York Jets offense.

New York Jets Defense vs Indianapolis Colts Offense

Defense is the reason for success of the New York Jets. They have played well most of the NFL regular season and they are especially stiff against the run. The New York Jets run defense is holding the opposing rushing game to just 94 yards per game on the ground and their pass defense has been steady as well. Darrelle Revis and his secondary have held opposing quarterbacks to just 205 yards per game. This season the New York Jets secondary has been susceptible to the big play in more than a few games.

Peyton Manning and this Indianapolis Colts offense has gone through injury issues on a weekly basis. Anthony Gonzalez has been unable to take the field once again this season and the concussion issues of Austin Collie have crippled the deep passing threat of Peyton Manning.

Manning's most devastating loss this season occurred early in the NFL regular season. Dallas Clark, Manning's most reliable pass catching tight end, went down for the season and threw the Indianapolis Colts offense into a major funk.

Manning is still unsure of his receivers this season and it has affected his willingness to take chances this season. The Indianapolis Colts offense and the New York Jets defense are even and neither has an edge in this NFL Wild Card Playoffs game.

New York Jets vs Indianapolis Colts -3: Pick Against the Spread & Breakdown

The Las Vegas Hilton Superbook has made the Indianapolis Colts a three point favorite over the New York Jets in their Saturday Night Football game. A three point spread on this game figures to be right on the number. The Indianapolis Colts are 8-7-1 overall against the spread and they are 4-4 against the spread in their home Lucas Oil Field.

The New York Jets are 9-7 against the spread overall and they are 5-3 against the spread on the road. This is not an ordinary road game for the New York Jets and their 5-3 record against the spread on the road is not a consideration. Take the Indianapolis Colts -3 points over the New York Jets.
