In the fashion jewelry world, we are in that part of the process that I love the most; the concept stage. Coming up with jewelry design ideas that are modern and new is the most rewarding part of the design process.
I realize how busy we can all get in the industry, and most especially for those of you running your own home jewelry businesses. Taking the time to find your jewelry design ideas can be difficult. So, i thought i would share with you the top trends to keep in mind as you develop your spring 2009 jewelry collections.
Color:
There are three key palettes to work with for spring jewelry. The first and most important is black and white. The fresh direction for this palette is to handle it in a less graphic way, and to inject a much more natural feel to it.
For example, the use of black and white fabric covered and crochet beads, floral metal-work sprayed black and white, or black and bleached wood mixed together could be some ideas.
The second jewelry color palette is blue and green. To make this story feel rich and elegant one jewelry design idea might be to try mixing matte and shiny surfaces together. Use contrasting fabric cords for a casual, beachy feeling. Translucent and opaque colors are the current new direction versus the transparent colors of past seasons.
The third palette is coral and yellow. It's the infusion of the yellow into the designs that takes this color into the future. This is a great palette to mix with satin finished or granulated textured metals for a more global look rather than an island feeling this spring.
Major Themes:
There are four major themes that are influencing accessory and jewelry design this spring. They are; floral,Indian,African and romantic. The best runway fashion shows that have inspired my own jewelry design ideas are Ralph Lauren,Ana Sui,Donna Karen and Vera Wang. Be sure to check them out at Vogue's www.style.com. If you click on the 'details' tab on each runway show you can view great closeup pictures of the jewelry.
Important Silhouettes:
Do not miss this fashion earring moment. Casual color chandelier earrings are bound to be key jewelry sellers for spring 2009. Large and lovely earrings are all over the couture fashion runway shows. Make sure to create some drama necklaces with corded closures as on Indian necklaces, and add lots of movement in the front. Beaded necklaces that include seed beads in particular round out this trio of 'not to be missed'' jewelry design ideas for your line.
