Jewelry Design Trends for Fall 2009

Trends to Get Ahead on for Fall '09

ANNE RUSH
Bohemian trends from Spring 2009 will become more luxurious as we move into Fall 2009. The major theme that the professional trend sources are talking about is Russian Folkloric.

Embodied by bold, rich saturated colors like purple, ruby, gold, black, and cobalt blue. Decorative and embellished. Dripping with charms, pearls, tassles and glittering stones.

This is the trend that bridges the boho mix of casual color to the over the top sparkling luxury that will be the major look for holiday jewels.

This style should hit the floors by august because by september you will want to be sure to have your sparkle out there in all its glory. The goal is to create a balace of day into night looks. This is why mixing opaque and semi precious stones with hits of glitter works so well at this time. This is the holiday teaser. It is important however to keep in mind the economy this year. Use silhouettes that have longevity and versatility. Value will be in the customers ability to rationalize the purchase.

Here's what sells best at this time of year:

Chandelier Earrings:

This look should cover a range of sizes and mixed tonal color combinations. The top two best selling colors are always crystal and jet, followed closely by garnet and topaz.. This year adding some fucshia to the garnet, some black diamond to the jet, some olivine greens to topaz would be appropriate to the trend. Contrasting these colors with platings can make them feel fresh as well. Try crystal in black plating, pink in hemetite, or garnet in pink gold for a variation.

Zac posen has some wonderful drippy earrings to take a look at. Visit my blog at www.annerush.com to see some photos.

Seed bead accents are a major design detail to include in any bead mix for fall. Fine chains and movement are always nice details that create a feminine feeling that sells well.

Torsade Necklaces:

This twisted fluid necklace is a classic look, but also happens to be one of the trendiest silhouettes about to happen. Its a look that flatters every woman, can be worn for many years and still look contemporary. Updating the mix within the twist is the new direction. Trying some fine chains, subtle shaking accents, charms, or wonderful imaginative clasps can do the trick.

Stretch Fashion Bracelets:

This look never fails as it is comfortable, glamourous in its look, and works well with chandelier earrings. Women who prefer to go for a bold earring and accent it with a great bracelet often purchase this combination. Multi-stone clustered looks always do extremely well, so be sure to include these, along with some more modern looks that are created by stones applied to base surfaces. The clean cuff with central stone cluster is one such modern look. Some designers are using fabric encrusted with stones glued onto brass bangles and cuffs to create this look.

Moving forward from transitional looks you will want to be sure to use bold, sparkling stones in upbeat bright colors. Sharp pricing, bold beauty and unique design will be the mantra for Holiday Jewels.

The long, beaded boho necklaces are great for layering. I made a few online- chose a long black pearl strand with charms and gems at: http://www.designjewelry.com
