Jewelry Making Ideas: Steampunk

SDR2010
When I grew up I did not have very much money in my family and this meant that we had to find a way to get the most out of the little that we had. This resulted in my ability to be very creative because I had to make the things that I wanted to wear. I loved jewelry but I didn't have enough money to by any and nor did anyone in my family and so we started to make our own jewelry and wear the pieces that we loved the most. I decided to try creating different styles of pieces that I would like and be able to wear and this is when I found Steampunk. This is a style that has a very gothic look to the designs and focuses on a rustic look that is created within a new piece. This jewelry is usually very antique looking and many people believe it is hard to make. However, I have made my own submarine Steampunk jewelry charm and I can teach you how to do the same.

What you will need is two 2*4 pieces of wood, one bottle of wood clue, two metal gears and one bottle of metal paint in addition to a paper towel or newspaper. What you will need to do is draw the blimp design on the pieces of wood leaving one slide of the shape on each piece and then cut these out using a saw. Once you have done this you will want to fit the two sides together into a circular blimp shape and apply the wood glue. Let dry for one hour and then paint on the metal paint. I used this metal paint from Amazon but you can use any that you like. Paint the blimp so it is covered in metal and then remove portions of the paint using the paper towel or newspaper so that it gets a rustic look. Let this dry for an hour once done and once this is complete you can insert metal gears into the sides of the blimp. You will want to stick a portion of each gear on one side of the blimp and you are free to create a unique look. I purchased my gears at RushGears and all you need to do is push the sections of each gear so it is inserted into the wood. If you like you could also use wood glue for more stability and once this is done the piece is complete now just wear with a simple silver chain and display elegantly.
