Jillian Michaels to Leave 'Biggest Loser' After 11th Season

The Hard-Driving Michaels Plans to Adopt a Child

With diet books plus a regular gig on "The Biggest Loser," Jillian Michaels has become a driving force in the weight-loss industry. Despite her success, Michaels is ready to drop the Hollywood weight.

Portrayed as a harsh taskmaster on "The Biggest Loser," Michaels recently announced that she is leaving the show to start a family. Due to health concerns, however, the 36-year-old Michaels plans to adopt a child instead of becoming pregnant.

Celebrities, like many working people, sometimes have to balance a career with the challenges of child-rearing. To be fair to their children, though, some celebs like Michaels choose to step out of the limelight to become full-time parents.

Kelly McGillis, a top box office draw in the 1980s, dropped off the Hollywood radar to regroup and raise a family. McGillis had starring roles in the powerful 1988 thriller "The Accused," as well as the testosterone-driven adventure "Top Gun."

In a 2001 interview with "The Independent," McGillis talked candidly about the pressures of being a celebrity and an actress. According to McGillis, giving up acting after a successful decade was easier because she had a family who cared about her as a person, not an actress.

Scott Baio, who starred in his own "Happy Days" spin-off and the popular syndicated show "Charles in Charge," slowly backed out of the spotlight to become a dad.

Baio, a notorious skirt chaser in his youth, could not commit to girlfriend Renee Sloan, so he turned his quest for understanding into the reality series " Scott Baio is 45...and Single. "

Taking a painful walk down memory lane with the help of a life coach, Baio revisits old girlfriends, including actress/model Julie McCullough. By show's end, Baio was ready to commit to Sloan, but in the final episode, she informed him that she was pregnant.

"Scott Baio is 46...and Pregnant," the inevitable sequel, shows Baio learning how to become a good dad. These days, Baio focuses on his family and is described as a "doting dad," but he still makes headlines with some of his political tweets.

A staple of primetime television for nearly a decade, Melissa Gilbert has put her career on hold at times to focus on her family. Her first marriage to Bo Brinkman produced a son named Dakota, but the marriage didn't last.

Gilbert's second marriage to "Tron" star Bruce Boxleitner was the one that took, however. On her official website, Gilbert is described as having a blended family with son Dakota and Michael Garrett, her child with Boxleitner.

Gilbert still has her foot in Hollywood, working on projects like the short-lived 1992 sitcom "Stand by Your Man." Gilbert also served as President of the Screen Actors Guild for a time, but it looks as if she puts family before Hollywood.
