Jim Bunning and Officials Need to Get it Together

Those in Power Have Lost Their Minds

Nicholas Roberts
Whoever thought the day would come that an elected official would speak so harshly to a news reporter? Actually, the answer to that question probably isn't all that hard to come by. If you're unfamiliar with what Jim Bunning did, you can head over to ABC news to see how the senator ignored questions by a reporter about a recent bill that would cut almost 2,000 public transportation jobs. After declining to comment, he then scolded the reporters by saying things like, "This is a Senator's only elevator" when trying to make his way onto the elevator after being chased by reporters.

Jim Bunning isn't the only one that has been acting up in recent days. Many senators and officials have become increasingly rude with reporters as things get heated up in the country. Things like the healthcare debate and the recession are affecting a lot of Americans and if I didn't know any better, I'd say they don't care. It's our hard earned money that gets people like Jim Bunning into office, and our votes that can take him out. If officials like Jim Bunning aren't willing to at least talk to reporters about why over 2,000 jobs are being cut from the economy, then they don't deserve to be in office. If we the people don't have a right to know about what goes on behind those Senate doors, who does?

According to ABC, Jim Bunning gave the ABC producers the finger right before cameras started rolling. I can definitely understand that being a Senator is a tough job, but not knowing where to draw the line between your personal feelings and your job is a problem. People like Mr. Bunning need to be held accountable for their actions and if no one is going to stand up for what is right anymore, it may be time to find some new officials to elect. With joblessness affecting all of us in some direct or indirect way, Jim Bunning should be standing up for what is right and not what he thinks will get him re-elected. In this case, giving reporters the finger and chasing them off the elevator, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people didn't agree that Jim Bunning and others like him are well on their way out of office.
