Recently I watched one of my favorite remakes of the classic tale, "The Count of Monte Cristo" on the Ovation television channel. This feature film from 2002 starred Jim Caviezel who at the time was relatively unknown. His face I had seen in other films. Now Caviezel is one of the stars of the hit TV series crime drama on CBS "Person of Interest."
Besides his breakthrough role as Edmond Dantes turned Count he appeared as Jesus in the controversial "The Passion of the Christ" directed by Mel Gibson. Prior to those roles he had a significant part in an ensemble cast of the Academy Award nominated film "The Thin Red Line." Caviezel also starred in "Frequency", "Angel Eyes" opposite Jennifer Lopez and "Deja Vu" with Denzel Washington.
The Washington State native was born James Patrick Caviezel on September 26, 1968 into a devout Catholic family. He grew up in and around Seattle while dreaming of playing at the University of Washington and the NBA until a basketball injury sidelined him for good. That is when he turned to acting.
Trivia
He has three sisters, Erin, Ann and Amy as well as one brother, Timothy.
Caviezel's sisters acted as matchmakers when they arranged a blind date for him. The lucky lady ended up becoming his wife.
His first film role was in Gus Van Sant's "My Own Private Idaho" where he played an airline ticket agent.
A guest star role in the ABC sitcom "Wonder Years" was Caviezel's first television appearance.
Accepted into Julliard he eventually turned it down to appear in the western film "Wyatt Earp."
In a small, but memorable, role he portrayed a homeless junkie in "Pay It Forward."
Before taking on the role of Jesus Christ, someone in Hollywood told him "You'll never work in this town again."
Jim and Kerri Caviezel have adopted two children from China, one boy and one girl.
His last name rhymes with "weasel."
For his weekly role as a former Special Forces operative in the television series "Person of Interest" Caviezel spent a lot of time with real-life operatives.
