But that's not the reason I'm writing this. What this really means is, anyone who attends the expo finds out what is happening in the world of film long before the public does. According to a detailed report from JimHillMedia.com, Jim Hill has seen the future of movies for the next few years. (This website regularly provides interesting news and entertaining commentaries on the entertainment industry. If you're into Disney news at all, this would be a good website to get familiar with.) What did he see when he peered into the crystal ball? Some exciting stuff for sure.
In 2010, we can expect an Alvin and the Chipmunks sequel entitled, "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel", "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader", a live action/CG "Smurfs" movie, a Dreamworks animated movie called, "How To Train Your Dragon", "Shrek Forever After", a 3D CG animated film starring Steve Carrell entitled, "Despicable Me", and yet another Dreamworks Animation release called, "Oober Mind" featuring the voice of Robert Downey Jr.
But that's not all the news that broke from the Licensing Expo. In 2011 you can expect the fourth film in the, "Spiderman" series with Sam Raimi and Toby McGuire. We'll also get a complete reboot of the 20th Century Fox "Fantastic Four" series. Is it a little too soon? Doesn't matter, they're doing it anyway.
But here's the biggest movie news at all. Walt Disney is moving forward with more details about their, "Lone Ranger" movie featuring Johnny Depp. News coming out of the convention has it that Mike Newell, who directed, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" is supposedly very close to being the film's official director. The "Pirates of the Caribbean" sequel has reportedly been pushed back to a summer 2012 release date. The biggest word from Jim Hill? Rumor has it that there will be a, "Monsters Inc." sequel. This is unconfirmed, as Mr. Hill heard it from sources he can't name and they weren't allowed to give details. But this rumor has been heard before, so it wouldn't surprise me in the least if it were true.
