Jimmy Buffett Fall Video is Frightening for Parrot Heads

Chris Houston
The Jimmy Buffett fall video is frightening stuff. Most parrot heads are scrambling to the internet this afternoon to see what transpired at a Jimmy Buffett concert in Australia and to see the Jimmy Buffett condition. The Jimmy Buffett fall video was released on the TMZ website here this afternoon..not long after word spread throughout Margaritaville and fans across the nation that he had suffered such an incident.

Buffett, who is 64 years old according to the TMZ story, was hospitalized after suffering the fall on stage during his concert in Sydney. It looked to be a horrific spill unlike many that we've witnessed before from other singers-perhaps because he actually fell off the stage as witnessed in the TMZ video. Buffett, who is well known for his hits "Cheeseburger in Paradise", "It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere" and "Margaritaville", is still a huge star to concert goers despite not releasing many significant hits over the past few years. He has a huge fan base that continues to grow each year despite not adding many hits to his collection.

On a personal level, my wife and I have seen Jimmy Buffett every year in Chicago for the past 4 years. We have also traveled to Cincinnati and Nashville to see the Margaritaville tour in person. I have often wondered when Jimmy Buffett would finally stop performing at these fabulous shows--or if he would ever slow down. But I never could have imagined something like I saw in the Jimmy Buffett fall video. Now I am just wondering what the official Jimmy Buffett condition is and concerned like many fans about his health--not just the future of his potential concert schedule.

The guy has provided so many fun moments for his fans over the years that it's amazing he still takes on such a grueling schedule of concerts each summer. Buffett has never let us down in terms of putting on an unbelievable concert that engages the entire crowd each year at Toyota Park. Hopefully, this Jimmy Buffett fall isn't going to slow down his concert schedule or deter him from taking the stage in the next few months--although as a Buffett fan, I hope he is in good health first.

Knowing Jimmy Buffett as a fan, I am sure he'll poke a little light hearted fun at himself when he does take the stage for his next concert. The latest I've found on Jimmy Buffett's condition is that he is doing well and expected to be released tomorrow! That's according to this story in People.com. When I saw Buffett in Nashville during the Tennessee floods in 2010, Buffett had a good time with the crowd and comically referenced the trouble to get to the actual concert. He is consistently upbeat so it's unusual to see the legend have to be serious for once. My guess is he has already had a few laughs at the incident and is ready to get back on the horse(or stage).

Parrot Heads will be anxious to see Buffett on tour this summer regardless of any accidental mishap like the one he suffered during his Sydney fall. If anything, maybe Jimmy can pen a new song about his fall. He's always the first to have a little fun--even at his own expense. I've never seen a guy put on a concert and look so darn happy the entire show. He will be sorely missed when he does decide to retire from touring and it's unlikely that anyone would take his place as the ultimate party and fun concert. But I doubt that retirement will come this year. His dedicated fan base would probably be cheering for another encore right now--and Buffett will most likely be providing such.

While the Jimmy Buffett fall video may be a little frightening, it's just probably a little speed bump on the way back to his next concert date. There aren't a lot of things you can count on these day--but having Jimmy Buffett back on tour each summer appears to still be a given-even if the fabulous singer/guitar player is 64 and nursing a concert injury. Let's hope the Jimmy Buffett condition improves quickly so fans of all ages can get to enjoy a summer tradition for many.
