Jimmy Buffett to Open New $50Million Margaritaville Hotel on Pensacola Beach Despite Oil Spill

Buffett Says "All Will Be OK," and Will Open His New $50Million Pensacola Hotel on Schedule

The timing could not be worse for musician Jimmy Buffett to open his new beachfront $50Million Margararita Hotel in Pensacola, Florida. Even though tar balls from the massive offshore Gulf of Mexico oil leak have started to wash up on his very beach, Buffett says he has no plans to delay the hotel's opening next week.

As he walked the beach with Florida Governor Charlie Crist, the iconic singer told the beach community that they will all get through this crisis by pulling together. He said that he would be there for them as the oil encroaches on their homes, leisure and livelihood.

His $50Million Margaritavile Hotel is located on the Gulf of Mexico, near the main section of Pensacola Beach. Hundreds of applicants lined up for a job fair this week, while television trucks and crews filled the parking lot to report on the oil slick's arrival.

The hotel sits on land where a previous hotel was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. Buffett contributed and raised money for hurricane relief.

Jimmy Buffett is a native of the Florida Panhandle. He grew up on its beaches. His music celebrates the Florida Lifestyle and has increased Florida tourism from the Florida Keys to the Pensacola area. He owns shops, restaurants, a stadium, restaurants (Cheeseburgers in Paradise) and now a new hotel, which he hopes will bring money and jobs to the area. He also has contributed millions to Florida's Save the Manatee Program. He cares about Florida.

Buffet has survived a plane crash, hurricanes and a gun shot wound in Jamaica. Forever the optimist, he is ready to ride out the oil spill which has invaded the silky white sand of the Panhandle beaches and devastated the economy and wildlife.

The 64 year old singer, songwriter, businessman and best selling author, is beloved by his devoted "parrot head" fans. His band is called the Coral Reef band. He is the consummate entertainer performing barefoot or wearing flip flops.

His music hits include Cheese Burger in Paradise, Come Monday, Margaritaville and Changes in Latitudes and Changes in Attitudes, all perfect escapist tunes. Let us all hope that he can do something proactive to help the Pensacola beach, where the oil spill is still not contained.

As the nightmare grows into reality we need a hero....We do not want to be "Wasted Away Again" in BP Oil slicks.

He built a restaurant, Lulus, for his sister in Gulf Shores. Hope this new venture works out but it will be tough with the oil spill.
