Jimmy Buffett Topples Off Sydney Concert Stage

US Singer Jimmy Buffett Hospitalized After Fall from Sydney Concert Stage

Singer Jimmy Buffett was hospitalized last night after falling from the stage at the Hordern Pavillion concert hall in Sydney, Australia. Buffett had just finished an encore performance of Lovely Cruise when he toppled off the edge of the brightly lit stage falling heavily in front of shocked fans.

Reports that Buffett was unconscious for 10 minutes are not correct. Interviewed this morning on Australia's high rating Sunrise breakfast show, Dr Gordian Fulde, head of emergency at St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney said the time was just over a minute. Dr Fulde, a huge Buffett fan, was in the audience near the spot where Buffett landed heavily. He rushed to his side and kept the singer's airway open until Paramedics arrived to transport the star to hospital.

Promoter Michael Chugg addressed the audience, telling them Mr Buffett had been involved in an incident and asked everyone to leave the pavilion immediately. The audience left in shock.

"He took a really nasty tumble," Dr Fulde told Sky News later.

The Australia Day concert at the Hordern Pavillion was added to Buffett's tour following two sell-out shows at the Sydney Opera House.

Scans and tests have revealed the singer is doing fine and has sustained no serious injuries.

Buffett's website contained this message this morning -

"As you probably already know, Jimmy had an accident while performing in Sydney last night and was taken to the hospital," the message says.

"The doctors say he is doing well and will be released tomorrow. More info as we get it, and thank you for all of your well-wishes!"

During his Sunrise interview with presenter David Koch, Dr Fulde said the entertainer could be released from hospital later today. Dr Fulde further stated that he was unsure whether Buffett would perform in Auckland, New Zealand this coming Saturday night.

Buffett is best known for his 70s hits Margaritaville and Cheeseburger in Paradise. Other top selling songs include Come Monday and Pencil Thin Moustache .

Jimmy Buffett is not dead - Wikipedia information incorrect - but now corrected

A glance at Buffett's listing on Wikipedia at the time of writing this article shows the singer died on 26 January, 2011 in Sydney Australia. This information is grossly incorrect. All media sources report that Buffett is doing well after the fall and expects to be released from hospital today, 27 January 2011.

I went to have morning tea and when I returned, Wikipedia had removed the death entry from Jimmy Buffett's page. Just as well.

Jimmy Buffett is not just an entertainer

As well as maintaining his successful singing and recording career, Jimmy Buffett is also an author and businessman. He is involved in two restaurant chains named after two of his best known songs. He owns the Margaritaville Cafe restaurant chain and co-developed the Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant concept with OSI Restaurant Partners (parent of Outback Steakhouse), which operates the chain under a licensing agreement with Buffett.

It can get dangerous up there on that stage... first Steve Tyler (with a little help from his "friend," and now Jimmy Buffett. These guys need to be careful. I'm glad he's OK. Good report!

This is encouraging news and Buffet was so lucky that a doctor was in the audience. Great job on this, Susie!
