Jingle Jingle Jingle: Earn Some Extra Money for the Holidays

Abigail Beal
If one of your biggest thoughts about the holidays is how are you going to pay for it all - you are not alone. Lots of people worry about how they are going to afford gifts for everyone, especially with the general attitude of "buy, buy, buy" that is portrayed in the holiday commercials we all see. Many people go into debt well into the next year, paying for the holiday gifts and other costs that the holiday time brings. One way to avoid a smaller credit card bill is to consider taking a second job for the holiday time.

The holidays can also be a great time for seeing a little extra green. Not just the lovely Christmas trees and wreaths and other greenery that we see at the malls and the other shops - but the perfect time to pick up a little extra cash. Just about every store you can think of is hiring on extra help just for the holiday time, and there are other options for holiday cash if working in a retail store doesn't jingle your bells.

Here are some ideas for ways to earn money this holiday season. This list is sure to get you started, and maybe there are other ideas that will come to you as you read this list.

Sell items at an online auction. We all have items in our homes that we don't use. Probably some of them are last year's holiday gifts! Seriously, if you look around your home for items you are not using and would like to turn into some holiday cash - you could sell these items at one of the auction sites, such as ebay.com or yahoo.com auctions. There are lots of people shopping right now, probably looking for the items that you have to consider some of them for holiday gifts. Turn those into holiday cash! You can also sell books, DVD's, CDs at www.half.com.

Perform a needed service. There are lots of people in your community looking for good babysitters, help for holiday parties (taking people's coats, serving food, greeting guests), parking cars. This is a great way to earn some holiday cash.

Sell items that you make.Tip: you may need to check local laws about selling items that you make before starting. Call your local or state offices to see if you need to fill out any paperwork or anything. You may need to "go into business" in your state first in order to do this, but if you are the crafty type, this could be a great way to earn some holiday cash! There are lots of holiday craft and gift fairs held at this time. People are looking for holiday gifts for everyone on their lists. This is something that could turn into a year-round business. You could also sell your items at online craft malls, do a google.com search for online craft malls.

Waiter/waitress. Many restaurants take on extra help during the holidays. So do places like catering halls and places where people hold holiday parties. This is a great way to earn holiday cash. This type of job could work very well for someone who is already working 9 to 5 because parties are held in the evenings and on the weekends.

Flower/package delivery. Lots of places that deliver flowers or packages of any type are taking on extra help. Small or large businesses are looking for extra people at this time. This can be a great way of earning extra money.

Teach a class. If you have a skill that could be useful during the holidays - a craft, cooking something, or another useful skill - look into a way to teach it as a class during the holidays. This could be a great way to earn some holiday cash.

Gift wrapper. So many large stores will be looking for people to gift wrap all of those presents people are buying at this time. This is a great job for the holidays. Remember if you work at any store typically you get a discount on their merchandise, perfect for doing your own holiday shopping.
